Failed bonus rolls in WoW are frustrating. Soon, they might not give any gold anymore.
As in almost every MMORPG, the loot from the toughest boss enemies is often the most rewarding and the biggest motivator to keep playing the game. It’s great that you can increase your chances of loot by buying 3 Seals of the Devastated Fate each week. Each seal can be used once to roll again on a boss to see if you might get some loot. In the best case, this ends with a good item from the boss’s loot list; in the worst case, with a few dozen gold as a consolation prize.
Ion Hazzikostas answered a viewer’s question during the livestream about whether the system could be revised in the near future, so that you might get artifact power instead of gold. Hazzikostas directly agreed and confirmed that the current system is not optimal. The whole principle of “bonus rolls” comes from a time when this additional loot distribution was really only understood as a possible bonus and not perceived by many players as a significant part of character progression.
However, as Hazzikostas stated, this adjustment is not as easy as some fans wish. It requires some changes to the “hard code” that would be quite difficult to implement and therefore would only come in a later patch.
Until then, players will have to live with buying a bonus token for 1000 gold, which in the worst case results in 32 gold bonus loot.
Cortyn says: For me, bonus rolls were never anything other than lottery tickets, and I personally don’t think a change is necessary. Anyone who buys a token for 1000 or more gold knows in advance that it’s just a chance at additional loot. For my part, that can stay as it is.
