In World of Warcraft, players now receive less Artifact Power – at least if they are particularly good at clearing dungeons.
At level 110, a large portion of gameplay in World of Warcraft revolves around one activity: collecting Artifact Power. While this coveted resource can be obtained from many possible sources, such as world quests, raids, dungeons, or PvP, players are always striving for the most effective method – and until now, that has been the “Mythic+” dungeons.
Blizzard is now implementing a hotfix that reduces the amount of Artifact Power received. Those who complete “Mythic+” dungeons well below the time limit will still receive the same number of reward chests, but they will not get additional items that grant Artifact Power.
In the official statement, it says:
“The bonus chests that you receive when you complete a dungeon significantly under the time limit, so that the Keystone is upgraded multiple times, are intended so that you do not miss out on loot because you were “too good” in a dungeon. It should never feel like a mistake to beat the time limit by a significant margin.
However, Artifact Power is available in almost every type of endgame content. The second reward that one essentially receives is the time saved by skipping multiple dungeons. This time can be used to gather Artifact Power in other activities.”
As at least a small compensation, each reward chest now also contains a moderate amount of gold at the end. Additionally, dungeons at higher “Mythic+” levels now generally grant more Artifact Power, which should at least partially compensate for this.
Cortyn says: There is (for me) little to criticize. Both the reasoning and the result sound reasonable to my ears. However, it is clear that some players do not like that the most lucrative source of Artifact Power is now drying up. But Blizzard will have to live with the backlash – and they will likely handle it quite well.
