Due to a hasty action by Blizzard, players of WoW missed out on some world quest rewards. We explain what happened.
Those who have no great desire for group content or simply do not feel fit enough for dungeons at level cap in World of Warcraft: Legion are currently completing world quests at a steady pace. No wonder, many of the missions can be completed in a few minutes, and the rewards are often significant improvements for the player’s character.
Rewards for all world quests reset
However, a sudden problem arose a few days ago – the rewards for all world quests were changed! Those who looked forward to a nice reward that they wanted to earn in the evening were left disappointed when only order hall resources or gold were available for a quest.
The reasoning from Blizzard is at least understandable: Many world quests have left “BoE” items, meaning armor that only becomes bound to a character when equipped. Since the rewards from world quests scale with the player’s item level, particularly ambitious players were able to collect many epic items and put them up for sale in the auction house.
The result was primarily that crafted items from professions became of little use, as players could simply buy world quest epics from other players. Blizzard’s hotfix has now led to most rewards being bound directly to the character – however, this required the rewards of the quests to be “re-determined”. This caused all active world quests to receive new rewards, which has angered some players quite a bit.
In the official forum, Blizzard has apologized:
“(…) Due to an error on our part, the hotfix was deployed too early. As a result, the rewards for many world quests were changed while the realms were still online.
Unfortunately, we are unable to reset the rewards back to their state prior to the hotfix if you were looking to get one of the rewards. We sincerely apologize for this error and the discomfort it has caused.”
