The developers of WoW have learned a lot. However, not all hidden content remains a positive memory.
Hidden content has always been part of World of Warcraft. Sometimes it was just well-camouflaged Easter eggs, occasionally secret items, and sometimes small scripted events that made lore enthusiasts squeal with joy. But with World of Warcraft: Legion, the developers have included so many hidden things in the game that there is basically something for every class.
The most prominent example here is the hidden artifact weapon skins that can be obtained for every class and specialization. While some classes can receive their skin relatively “boringly” by simply purchasing it or hoping for a random drop, other classes have complete questlines filled with much effort and exciting actions.
In the official forum, Community Manager Ornyx says:
“We have learned many important lessons about hidden content and different unlock methods throughout the development of Legion. Some of our efforts were obviously more successful than others. We take these lessons to heart and will consider them in the future. Furthermore, we are working on some small changes for a future patch that will alter how hidden artifact weapon skins are obtained. The goal is to reduce the frustration caused by some of the elusive skins.”
Cortyn says: Honestly, I’m quite glad that there are so many differences with the hidden skins. However, I agree that it can be frustrating to just wait for a random drop from a world boss. Nevertheless, I hope that in the future there will still be such differences between classes and not everyone farms something hidden according to “template X” where only the location and name were exchanged.
