Are potions and flasks in WoW too expensive? The developers are happy with it – for now.
Anyone who wants to belong to the elite in World of Warcraft and complete raids or Mythic+ dungeons at a higher difficulty level cannot avoid equipping themselves with flasks, potions, and buff food. These small enhancements contribute several percentage points of performance over the course of a boss fight and often decide the victory or defeat of an entire group. However, the costs for flasks and potions are as high as they have ever been in Azeroth.
The topic came up in an interview with Community Manager “Lore” and the new Game Director Ion Hazzikostas. According to Hazzikostas, alchemical items this time are more resource-intensive because it was made too easy in Warlords of Draenor. There, flasks cost so little gold that you basically always used one.
However, the reason why potions are so expensive has a second cause, according to Hazzikostas. In Warlords of Draenor, all characters could gather herbs without being herbalists. Many players therefore forgot the herbalism profession, which currently leads to a shortage in this profession.
Generally, the problem should normalize with Patch 7.1 “Return to Karazhan”, as you will then be able to exchange Blood of Sargeras for crafting materials. This will temporarily lead to a massive oversupply of resources on the market – prices will decrease and will likely remain at a lower level than before.
Basically, gameplay methods like “Pre-Pots on every attempt” should remain a luxury that only players with the necessary resources can afford, and thus invest more time in the game.
The interview also covered some other topics:
