How the battle in the Night Fortress against Gul’dan ends is shown in this WoW cinematic. Be warned, massive spoilers!
Resourceful data miners have already extracted the cinematic for the conclusion of the next major raid “The Night Fortress” from the patch data. If you do not want to be spoiled, you should stop reading right here! You have been warned.
Patch 7.1 of World of Warcraft has just been deployed on the live server and the associated raid is not yet open, and already data miners have found and decrypted the cinematic for the next raid in the game data. In the Night Fortress, in addition to the leader of the Nightborne, Elisande, there is also the orc warlock Gul’dan to defeat, who serves as the final boss. The cinematic does not reveal how the fight proceeds but does show how it ends. You should watch it yourself:
If the video is no longer available, it has likely been deleted by YouTube, so here is a brief summary: Gul’dan, defeated and battered, collapses to his knees and throws one last glance into a huge, green portal to the Legion’s worlds before it turns red. Gul’dan seems to recognize something in this flaming vision before Illidan appears behind him and literally squeezes the last life out of the warlock. He “pops” like Varian, so Illidan once again holds Gul’dan’s skull in his hands and destroys it as well. Then Illidan turns to the “heroes” (the raiders) and demands that they “follow him into the Abyss.”
Cortyn says: Ah, the hype train is rolling full steam through my head. I can only hope that Illidan’s line at the end means that we will attack a world of the Legion in the following patches (7.2 or 7.3?). However, the “Abyss” could also refer to the depths of the seas, where the old god N’Zoth still rests, who is also waiting for a substantial setback and is prophesied at various points. What really awaits us will likely be revealed at BlizzCon – hopefully. Now I am definitely very much looking forward to Blizzard’s trade show.
And I am so damn curious about what Gul’dan saw in that portal…
