Blizzard has nerfed popular toys from World of Warcraft: Legion. Why don’t the developers want players to be able to “fly”?
Toys with too much significance
The last hotfix for World of Warcraft hit collectors of toys particularly hard, as two of the most popular collectibles from Legion were heavily nerfed. The “Brulfaustgötze” and the “Himmelshorndrachen aus Rocfedern” are affected, both of which have received higher cooldowns. The toy now has a 5-minute cooldown, and the dragon even a full 15 minutes. What has driven Blizzard to make these changes?
The answer was provided by “Watcher” Ion Hazzikostas in the last developer livestream. According to him, it was indeed intentional that there was no second “Aviana’s Feather” in Legion to avoid players being able to fly easily. However, the aforementioned two toys allowed for practically the same effect and that quite frequently – so the developers had to intervene.
However, there are other reasons as well. The developers are not against the general mechanics of the toys, because that would also penalize priests, demon hunters, and engineers who have similar effects. Yet to preserve some uniqueness for these classes and professions, they have drastically increased the cooldowns. Those who want can still stock up on gliders from engineers, but it seemed unfair that the dragon was superior to the crafted variations by engineers in almost every aspect.
Furthermore, it is not the philosophy behind toys that they are strictly necessary. Many players planned in Legion, for example, to first go to Highmaul just to get the toy – that is precisely what they want to prevent in the future.
