Some players in WoW have several legendary items. The developers joke about it.
The legendary items from World of Warcraft: Legion spark many controversial discussions. While some players are generally dissatisfied with the new items, saying they have nothing to do with “legendary”, others complain that they have not received a legendary item yet. Another group of players is annoyed with those who have been luckier than themselves, having two, three, or even four legendary items.
In an interview with Community Manager “Lore”, Game Director Ion Hazzikostas revealed that there was already an internal running gag:
“Maybe we should have implemented a protection against too much luck. (…) But seriously, people with 3 or 4 legendary items are just very lucky individuals and an absolute minority, somewhere in the second decimal place behind the zero.”
At the same time, Ion Hazzikostas dispelled some myths. While there is a protection against “Bad Luck” that ensures you don’t get the same legendary item twice, other rumors are not true. The chance of getting a legendary item does not increase over time – that is, not with each week that the character is level 110. Also, every boss killed in a dungeon does not increase the chance of an orange drop.
There is simply no “guarantee” of receiving a legendary item. This is indeed intended. Because if players could “work towards” it, it would feel like a long grind. They should be happy when the item drops – the fact that there are some fans who are not satisfied with this is unfortunately a necessary evil that must be accepted. You can’t please everyone.
During the interview, there were more discussions on the following topics:
- Legendary items will be buffed
- “Bring the player, not the class” went too far
- Potions should remain luxury
