Rogues with the specialization “Outlaw” can look forward to some buffs in World of Warcraft.
With World of Warcraft: Legion, the rogue received a complete overhaul, allowing them to choose the specialization “Outlaw” to spread chaos like a pirate with a saber and musket, plundering all treasures (which are conveniently marked on the minimap). However, not everyone is satisfied with the rogue of this spec, as it heavily relies on their ability “Fate Dice,” which grants them one (or more) strong buffs – completely at random.
In the forum, Community Manager Ornyx responded to the issue and stated:
“Fate Dice is a defining ability for Outlaw rogues, and the gameplay offers a lot of depth when you have to react to the various buffs, as they change the flow of battle. We are pleased with how it plays, and there are very few class mechanics that can match the excitement when you get that rare 6-buff at just the right moment.”
That said, we acknowledge that this playstyle isn’t for everyone, which is why we’ve offered “Shred” as an alternative. “Death Sentence” and “Death from Above” require a bit more commitment to be truly effective and will need to create a benefit substantial enough to reward that investment. We will definitely take another look at Shred to see if it lives up to expectations. If it doesn’t, we’ll see if we can make some improvements.
Regardless of Fate Dice, we find that the damage of Outlaw rogues is slightly lower than we would like, and we are looking at options to raise that. We don’t have a definite timeline for when that will happen, but it is on our to-do list.”
Cortyn says: Since my farming twink is also an Outlaw rogue, I’ve gained some experience with it and actually find the spec quite nice as it is. However, I recognize that the randomness factor is more of a concern for high-end raiders who cannot properly time their damage spikes. If these players are provided with an alternative – and Fate Dice remains untouched – I find that completely acceptable.
