Blizzard is working on the lore of World of Warcraft. What is Khadgar’s first name? What about Medan?
At BlizzCon, there was a fairly long “Q&A” session about everything related to World of Warcraft. In addition to the obligatory appearance of the “Red Shirt Guy,” who asks a lore question every year (and usually makes the writers sweat), there were also a few other fans who wanted details about the story.
So the question arose about what had happened to Medan – we have already reported on him in a separate article. The young man was the only one able to unite the magic sources of Arcane, Shamanism, and Light and is considered the “special snowflake” of the Warcraft universe, meant to be the last Guardian. However, in WoW, he is just not present at all.
The developers talked a lot about Medan and his comic series and concluded that Medan does not belong to the MMORPG’s canon.
It’s an exciting story that could certainly take place in Warcraft, but it is not official canon of the game. This contradicts statements made a few years ago, suggesting that Medan could appear in the future – he seems to have been removed for now.
The “Red Shirt Guy” wanted to know what Azshara is actually up to, as some quests suggest she is cooperating with the Legion, which makes little sense since she also has a pact with the Old Gods (who are responsible for the Naga’s form). The somewhat evasive answer was that not all Naga serve one faction – thus not all Naga serve Queen Azshara. However, whose side the former elf queen really stands on will likely only be revealed in the future.
Finally, a fan wanted to know why there is so little lore about Khadgar. No one knows exactly where he comes from or what his last name is. The developers amusingly responded that “Archmage” is his first name, which earned many laughs. In the future, they plan to give this character more story and reveal more about him.
