The legendary items from World of Warcraft will be nerfed – at least most of them.
Hardly any system in World of Warcraft: Legion is as controversially discussed in the forums and on social media as the legendary items from the current expansion. Since the distribution of these items is largely based on chance, many players have been quickly disappointed when they obtained “the wrong” Legendary.
With Patch 7.1.5, that is supposed to change. In the next version of the test server, the developers plan to implement extensive changes to the legendary items. The Community Manager Lore describes and justifies the planned adjustments as follows:
“We are making some big changes to the legendary items to ensure they are more equally valued across the board. Items that provide a direct performance boost (without being tied to a specific situation) will generally have their strength reduced, while we will also take a look at the “niche legendaries” to ensure they are “usable” and feel powerful.
Basically, we think that if a Legendary is only usable in a specific situation, it should prove to be extremely valuable in that situation. On the other hand, if a Legendary improves performance almost all the time, then that improvement should be less significant. Up to this point, we have made the mistake of allowing some items to be extremely powerful AND useful at all times, which makes other legendaries feel “bad” in comparison. This has also led some specializations to believe they need a specific Legendary just to keep up. We want to address these issues.”
If Blizzard could turn back time, they would likely do some things differently with the legendary items. Lore quoted Ion Hazzikostas, the Game Director:
“If we were to rebuild the whole system from scratch, we would probably only include “Utility” legendaries.” – Those are items that are particularly valuable only in certain situations.
There is no release date for Patch 7.1.5 yet. Blizzard aims for the first weeks of 2017. Until then, players can still enjoy their too powerful legendaries and mourn their too weak items.
