One of the oldest mysteries in video game history is probably the legendary cow level from Diablo 2. Since then, the phrase “There is no cow level” is probably one of the most quoted phrases on the Internet. And yet it is a flat-out lie, because Diablo 2 had a cow level. To access it, you had to combine a Tome of Town Portal with Wirt’s Third Leg in the Horadric Cube and voila – the slaughter of the udder herds could begin.
On the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the Diablo franchise, there is also an achievement in World of Warcraft that has a description that exactly says “There is no cow level.” Interestingly, as we know from data miners, at this time all the items are also in the game to create the portal to the cow level. “Wirt’s Third Leg” has been an item in the game since Classic, and the “Horadric Sack” along with the Town Portal Scrolls are likely to come with the related event.
The corresponding event takes place in World of Warcraft from January 4 to 10, 2017 – so there is still some time to mentally prepare for it.
But maybe all of this is just a myth and there is – at least in World of Warcraft – no cow level. But then Blizzard wouldn’t be Blizzard somehow.
