Blizzard weaves World of Warcraft with the novels and brings a nice detail to the Dalaran of Legion.
Kinndy Sparkshine lives on – in the lanterns of Dalaran
In the Warcraft novel “Tides of War” by Christie Golden, part of the backstory of “Mists of Pandaria” is told. The story mainly revolves around the significant plot that drives Garrosh Hellscream to drop a mana bomb on the human city of Theramore, to wipe out many leaders of the Alliance at once. Jaina Proudmoore, the ruler of the city, barely survives this attack. Since then, she has developed a burning hatred for the Horde. Numerous members of the Alliance perished in this attack, and the city was completely ruined.
One of these victims is the gnome Kinndy Sparkshine, who was Jaina’s student and was prophesied to have a great future due to her magical talent.
In the book, Kinndy’s death is dramatic – the power of the mana bomb ruins her body so much that it crumbles to a pile of purple sand when Jaina touches it – this moment is considered the point where Jaina came a good deal closer to “madness.”
Kinndy was the daughter of Windle Sparkshine, who is responsible for the lighting of the mage city Dalaran. In Legion, Windle Sparkshine can still be found in the city, and every evening at dusk, he goes from lantern to lantern to light the lamps of the city. A special detail has now caught the players’ eye, as the shimmering figure of a cheerful, dancing gnome – Kinndy Sparkshine – momentarily appears above the lanterns when lighting them. Her father honors his fallen daughter this way and continues to let her smile be “The Light of the City.”
