WoW: Legion – Karazhan, the “old” WoW feeling

The new instance Karazhan in World of Warcraft evokes nostalgic feelings and is a lot of fun.

Since yesterday, the latest patch of World of Warcraft is active and I gathered a group to swiftly rush through the prequest of Karazhan (which begins with Khadgar in Dalaran, in case someone doesn’t know yet). Afterwards, we took our first steps into the new instance.

And what can I say? Karazhan has stirred up a lot of nostalgic feelings, just as Blizzard intended.

Already on the way to the theater event, we had to laugh several times when we found “Negative Reviews” that evaluate the various events and brought us to grin again and again with sarcastic remarks. The event itself was also great (we had the Murloc-Defias love story) and during the boss fight, there were so many ground effects to avoid that I couldn’t stop laughing. It was chaos. Wonderful, thrilling chaos.

Even the second boss, the virtuous maid, was a lot of fun and requires coordination and communication – simply “we just rush in” won’t help much. After that, we were rewarded with a small cutscene that highlights some moments from Medivh’s life. Hopefully, there will be more, as we haven’t defeated any more bosses.

Though we then fought our way through the cellar (and laughed every time the tank killed the group with an overzealous spitting spider), we didn’t have time for midnight because the guild raid needed to be completed.

I’m looking forward to exploring Karazhan more later and hopefully completing the dungeon. But even if we can’t manage that today, it’s really fun to make progress again as a group of 5 and slowly take down the bosses.

Most of the time, I had really glassy eyes in Karazhan, as much fun as the start of the instance was, bringing back memories of days gone by. Anyone who has a group of “old friends” they used to run around with in Karazhan should quickly get going and play the instance themselves. It’s worth it. The loot is far, far in the background.
