In addition to artifact power, there is also artifact knowledge in World of Warcraft . We will explain how it benefits you.
Knowledge is Power – More Knowledge is More Power!
For newcomers and returnees, the system around artifact weapons is not that easy to understand. As soon as you reach level 110 and have at least a rough understanding of what artifact power is, players throw around a new term: artifact knowledge. But what exactly does it do? And how does it benefit my character? How can I gain more artifact knowledge? We will explain this in this little guide.
Artifact knowledge only becomes relevant once your character reaches level 110. You will then receive new missions in your class hall that introduce you to the new feature. You should spend a moderate amount of class resources to send out some researchers who will gather more information about your weapons. For every 500 resources, the researchers will head out and return after 5 days. Each time they return, you will receive an item that allows you to increase your level of artifact knowledge. Simply put, artifact knowledge increases the rate at which you gain artifact power.
The following table shows the increase your character receives.
| Level Artifact Knowledge | Increase of Artifact Power |
| 1 | 20% |
| 2 | 50% |
| 3 | 90% |
| 4 | 140% |
| 5 | 200% |
| 6 | 275% |
| 7 | 375% |
| 8 | 500% |
| 9 | 650% |
| 10 | 850% |
| 11 | 1100% |
| 12 | 1400% |
| 13 | 1775% |
| 14 | 2250% |
A simple example: An item increases the artifact power of the equipped weapon by 100 points. If your artifact knowledge is already at level 1, this value would rise to 120 points (100 + 20% = 120). At an artifact knowledge level of 13, the same item would grant a whopping 1875 points (100 + 1775% = 1875).
This system leads to even supposedly “small” items becoming quite useful.
By the way: It makes no sense to keep all the items from the leveling phase that grant artifact power until the end. Although most items gained through “level questing” scale with artifact knowledge, artifact power is not a limited resource – the small bonuses during leveling will pay off in the long run.
Latecomers Have It Easier
Those who join the expansion later particularly benefit from this system. As time goes on, the research for artifact knowledge can be conducted faster. Instead of waiting 5 days for a new level, newcomers could need only 3 or even 2 days to catch up with the veterans. But it also pays off for twinks if you want to switch characters during the course of the expansion. The farming time for artifact power is drastically reduced.
Finally, here are a few general notes about artifact knowledge:
- Artifact knowledge increases the rate of artifact power gain for all specializations of the character. A Shadow Priest with “Artifact Knowledge Level 8” would thus automatically have level 8 for their Holy weapon as well.
- Artifact knowledge also reveals more about the backstory of the weapon! In the class hall, there is a book that is regularly updated and reveals new information about the weapon. Check back regularly once you’ve gained a new level of artifact knowledge.
