The WoW patch 7.1 causes performance issues for some players. The reason for this is often outdated addons.
The first content patch of World of Warcraft: Legion was filled with new content, but the “Return to Karazhan” has not only brought good news. Many players are complaining about significant FPS drops that did not occur in version 7.0.3.
Even though it sounds like a standard response, a large part of these performance killers is often due to outdated interface extensions (addons). Especially addons that query positions in the world, such as “Tomtom”, cause problems. But also the extensions “Archy”, “Grid2”, “Gathermate2”, or even the simple “MapCoords” lead to issues.
Blizzard recommends deleting all outdated addons or performing a game repair (this can be initiated in the Battle.net launcher). After that, one should check whether the FPS issues occur even without addons and only then gradually start to install the latest versions of addons to identify any “problem children” directly.
At least in the official forums, many players seem to have been helped by deactivating and cleaning their addon folders. How about you? Did you have problems with patch 7.1?
Cortyn says: The reinstallation of addons is probably always the most annoying part of the release of major patches. Even I have had to give up some favorites like WIM, which will now cost me weeks of adjustment, during which friends and acquaintances will not receive whispers from me – but hey, this way the interface stays a bit fresh. I can only hope that the smart minds behind the addons will catch up soon and at least some extensions will be updated to the current state.
