With the Companion App, you have many features at your fingertips in World of Warcraft: Legion. Patrick shares his experiences with the app so far.
Since September 6, the Companion App is available for smartphones. Blizzard gives players the option to utilize the features of the Order Hall outside the game. My curiosity got the better of me, and I had to download and try the app right away. Now I want to share my experiences with the program.
Small but Mighty – The “WoW Legion” Companion App
First of all, it should be noted that “small” does not necessarily refer to the app’s storage space but rather to its simple visual layout. With about 230 MB of storage usage (at least on the iPhone), I would place the app in the “medium” category. However, this isn’t just about technical data, but about the utility of the program. After launching, you log into the app with your Battle.net account, authenticate with the Authenticator, and the app is connected to your characters. At that moment, I noticed that you cannot be online in the game and use the app at the same time. Disconnect!

The simple design of the app makes it strikingly easy to use. There are 5 hotkeys at the bottom of the screen that allow you to switch between the categories Quests, Recruitment, World Map, Followers, and Exploration.
My first attempt was with the quest function: selected a quest, assigned 3 followers, and then started the quest. An in-game timer indicates how long the quest will still take. In the recruitment menu, I can request additional troops to assist me on my quests, which are Treants from my Druid’s Dream Grove. They support my quest team for every 2 quests.
Increased Productivity in the Order Hall without PC Dependency
When a quest or recruitment is completed, the app can alert you with an audible notification (if you allow the feature on your smartphone). I experienced this last night around 4:00 AM when one of my quests was completed. A loud noise of two clashing swords (or something similar) echoed through my bedroom and woke not only me but also my dog. So remember to turn down your ringtone if you don’t want to be awakened by completed quests.
Furthermore, the overview of the world map and the exploration feature are practical. On the world map, you can see current world quests along with their duration and rewards.
Conclusion on the Companion App
I personally find the app useful and can thereby utilize quests and Order Hall functions more regularly. Since you don’t have to start the game, you are not tempted to get distracted by other things in the game. You focus on the essentials, train followers, and send them on quests. Although the app could have been more effective at the time of Warlords of Draenor, that doesn’t make it any “worse” now. My tip: Give the app a chance and download it. You can hardly manage your quests in the game more conveniently.
