With WoW Legion, instead of a continent, there is an archipelago: The Broken Isles. The capital is once again Dalaran and our goal is to put an end to the Burning Legion. For they received access to Azeroth through the warlock Gul’dan.
There are no significant spoilers here. Only the starting situation for the individual zones has been clarified. Additionally, some names of known characters are mentioned, which we will encounter. However, the section on Dalaran contains spoilers for the pre-event.
In World of Warcraft: Legion, we can finally vacation on a tropical archipelago. Many sights are also present. How about a romantic picnic at the World Tree Shaladrassil? Connected with a unique view of the Emerald Nightmare, which you might even survive with some luck.
This is our starting point. A place where Horde and Alliance come together and explore this grim area together. Along with heroes like Varian Wrynn and Sylvanas Windrunner. Furthermore, the Tomb of Sargeras is located here. Gul’dan broke its seal, thus allowing the Burning Legion access to Azeroth. Our task is to close this gate again.
To achieve this, we need the Pillars of Creation. We will find these in the other areas. Thus, we must travel through the archipelago to interrupt the demonic influx.
Stormheim
This area is primarily populated by Vrykul and Valkyra. We learn a lot about their history and the god-king. Furthermore, we encounter a new dragonflight with Stormwing Dragons. The Legion itself plays only a minor role here.
In addition to internal conflicts of the local population, there are also conflicts between the Horde and the Alliance. Sylvanas’ hatred is directed against anyone who threatens her undead. She has plans in Stormheim, which she is trying to implement as fanatically as Garrosh once did. As a Horde player, the adventure begins with a conflict involving dwarves and worgen.
Val’sharah
Here, Malfurion Stormrage was made the first druid by the demigod Cenarius. Accordingly, this area is strongly influenced by their history and that of the night elves. The World Tree Shaladrassil mentioned in the introduction can be found here, albeit slightly corrupted.
For this area is closely connected with the Emerald Dream. Xavius has been trying for a long time to gain control over it. He is supported by the Old God N’Zoth, who was already responsible for Deathwing and the Cataclysm. For this reason, the Emerald Dream has turned into a nightmare that Ysera can no longer contain alone.
The Highmountain
Many high mountains and the rest of the view strongly resemble Grizzly Hills. Only the tauren living here are new. Instead of demons, we encounter Drogbar and harpies as enemies. And we finally meet Murlocs again!
We have missed them for a long time, as they did not appear in the last expansions. We meet King Mrgl-Mrgl from Northrend again. Actually, he is not a real Murloc, as he is a druid in disguise. Nevertheless, the fish folk faithfully follow their ruler, who asks us for help.
But we also learn more about Neltharion, better known as Deathwing. Together with Brann Bronzebeard, we find time anomalies of the former Earthwarden. Another dwarf we meet here is Hemet Nesingwary. Again we help him with his hunt.
Azsuna
Once, night elves lived here until Queen Azshara had them killed. Today we only encounter the ruins of their civilization, as well as their ghosts. This area is primarily populated by Naga, who want to gain control over the Pillar of Creation.
Additionally, we find remnants of the Blue Dragonflight. After the Hour of Twilight, the victory over Deathwing, the flight retreated to Coldarra. Shortly thereafter, Garrosh Hellscream managed to steal a powerful artifact, the Focusing Iris, from them. This allowed him to destroy Theramore. As a result, the dragonflight dissolved more or less. We encounter some of them here.
For the third time, we will experience Dalaran, once again in a new version. Between the events of Cataclysm and Mists of Pandaria, Rhonin has died, Jaina Proudmoore took his place as head of the Kirin Tor. Since then, Dalaran has not been neutral anymore, as Jaina removed the representatives of the Horde, many blood elves died in the process. With World of Warcraft: Legion, Khadgar takes over the governance of the mage city, who has already cooperated closely with both factions in the previous expansion. The city will therefore be neutral again.
The previous version in the Crystal Song Forest remains, by the way. For technical reasons, it cannot be easily removed. It is too important for the quests and stories there.
Dungeons
As usual, the new expansion also features new dungeons in different difficulty levels. How do they differ from their predecessors, both visually and in content? Read the following articles and get the answers.
