In World of Warcraft: Legion, much revolves around the artifact weapons. These are given to players early on and grow with their bearers throughout the expansion. Each talent specialization gets its own weapon, which means Warlocks have a total of 3 artifacts available. Let’s take a look at the individual weapons.
Affliction – Ulthalesh, Reaper of the Dead Winds (Artifact Weapon for Affliction Warlocks)
Background story: Azeroth’s first Necrolord, Satiel, received this scythe from the dark titan Sargeras himself. Satiel set out to harvest and collected the life energy of the inhabitants of the Dead Winds mountain pass, which gradually empowered the scythe more and more. At some point, it became so powerful that it created a strong nexus – prompting the Guardian of Tirisfal to intervene. After a long chase, the Guardian managed to turn the scythe against Satiel, resulting in her own demise. Ultimately, the dark riders claimed the scythe and hid it deep under the tower of Karazhan – the tower of Medivh.
Properties of Ulthalesh, Reaper of the Dead Winds: As Affliction is the DoT specialization of the Warlock, most artifact properties are designed to enhance these spells. However, there are some peculiarities, such as the ability to completely heal oneself with the health stone.
Reap Souls allows the weapon to consume all currently captured souls, increasing the Warlock’s damage by 10% per consumed soul for 5 seconds. At the same time, the effect of all other weapon properties is doubled for this duration.
With Soul Flame, the soul of an enemy explodes upon their death, dealing moderate area damage.
Wrath of Consumption enhances the Warlock as long as they defeat additional enemies. When an opponent dies, the damage of all Warlock’s DoTs increases by 2% for 20 seconds, stacking up to 5 times.
Harvester of Souls grants the character additional damage and self-healing. Each time Corruption deals damage, there is a 15% chance to deal additional damage and heal for a small amount.
Destruction – Skull of the Man’ari (Artifact Weapon for Destruction Warlocks)
Background story: Even before the Eredar were corrupted by Sargeras, they were already highly skilled spellcasters. Thal’kiel, one of the leaders of the people, was considered particularly powerful. Driven by ambition, he reached far into the Void and was rewarded with knowledge. He learned of dark creatures that overshadowed everything the Eredar had ever seen. Thal’kiel’s pupil, Archimonde, learned of his master’s dark pact and convinced the other leaders that Thal’kiel needed to be stopped. Thal’kiel was killed, and his skull was gilded to serve as a warning example to all those who deal recklessly with magic. In the modern era, the skull serves as a spell focus for the dreadlord Mephistroth – until players take the skull from him.
Properties of the Skull of the Man’ari: The usual properties of the skull are hardly surprising; almost all increase the direct damage of the Warlock or their demons.
Starting off with Thal’kiel’s Consumption. A spell that steals 10% of the maximum HP of all currently summoned demons and deals this as damage to the targeted enemy.
Thal’kiel’s Discord allows the weapon to occasionally teleport to a random enemy after a Shadow Bolt. There, the skull screams, dealing high damage to all nearby enemies and frightening lesser demons and undead for 6 seconds.
Through Stolen Power, the Warlock accumulates stacks. Each time one of the Warlock’s demons deals damage, 1 stack is generated. Once 100 stacks are accumulated, the next Shadow Bolt deals 100% more damage.
The Expandables makes wild imps more useful. Each time a wild imp dies, the damage of all other Warlock’s demons increases by 1%. This effect can stack up to 15 times.
Destruction – Scepter of Sargeras (Artifact Weapon for Destruction Warlocks)
Background story: It took several hundred servants of Sargeras to create this staff. The weapon is capable of creating dimensional portals and thus connecting worlds. The most famous wielder is perhaps the orc shaman Ner’zhul, who created portals for the conquests of the orcs that destroyed numerous worlds. Through these portals, the original Draenor became the shattered world. Later, the weapon fell into the hands of the Kirin Tor, but they were unable to destroy a weapon of such power. So they at least wanted to prevent the weapon from ever being used again – until now.
Properties of the Scepter of Sargeras: The properties of the scepter are direct, unambiguous enhancements of damage. Additionally, there is an interesting effect that using Demonic Portal heals the Warlock for 50% of their maximum health points.
With Dimensional Rift, the Warlock opens a portal that deals damage to the targeted enemy. This spell has up to 3 charges.
Through Dimension Ripper, every Incinerate has a 6% chance to restore a charge of Dimensional Rift.
Conflagration of Chaos ensures that the spell Conflagrate guarantees that the next spell Conflagrate critically hits. Your critical strike rating is converted into additional damage for this effect.
The Lord of Flames effect enhances Rain of Fire, allowing you to summon 6 infernals to serve the Warlock for 8 seconds once every 10 minutes.
