World of Warcraft: Legion will launch with as many dungeons as few expansions. However, 2 of them are only available on Mythic.
Suramar is Endgame – also regarding the dungeons
The next expansion of World of Warcraft, Legion, puts a greater focus on group play and thus on dungeons. All instances should remain relevant throughout the duration of the whole addon. However, of the 10 announced dungeons, 8 will be available on “normal” or “heroic” – 2 dungeons are only available on “mythic”. Does this exclude casuals from the instances that tell part of the story? Not quite. In the official forum, Blizzard has now explained why this is the case and what they were thinking.
The two instances “Court of Stars” and “Arcway” are located in the area of Suramar, which is designed for players level 110. Both dungeons are closely intertwined with the story and therefore have an “Attunement” quest – to enter them, you must first quest in Suramar for a while. The developers wanted these two instances to serve as a reward by giving players another opportunity to obtain better gear. However, since most players only enter dungeons through the “Looking for Group” tool, it didn’t feel like a reward to be able to choose between 9 or 10 instances instead of 8 in the random selection of dungeons.
For this reason, the mentioned dungeons will only be offered as Mythic versions. Unlike normal and heroic instances, the mythic variant can only be entered with a self-made group. This is also important as Court of Stars and Arcway have special mechanics that require specific agreements.
Blizzard emphasizes that mythic dungeons in Legion are not as difficult as in Warlords of Draenor. Anyone looking for a hardcore challenge will be happy in “Mythic+” – because here the difficulty increases, while the rewards get better.
However, if you are worried that you cannot complete the quest area Suramar, they reassure you. Although the instances are unlocked during the storyline, the actual quests for it are only “side stories” and not required for the main plot.
