A new leak about the next addon of World of Warcraft is causing a stir. It could be that all our characters will have to die.
Slowly but surely, the expansion “Battle for Azeroth” is approaching its end. Although there is still the smaller Patch 8.2.5, which is currently on the PTR, Patch 8.3 will likely already be the finale of the expansion. A few weeks ago, we had discussed a potential leak regarding the expansion “Shadowlands”. Now there is further information building on that.
And it looks bleak: Almost all characters will die.
What was leaked? A new screenshot was published on 4chan showing the harbor of Stormwind with a ghostly fleet. The fleet bears the banner of the Forsaken. There was a lot of information about how the final battle of Battle for Azeroth would unfold and what the following expansion is about.
This is the Battle of Stormwind: The leak states that the last raid is “The Battle of Stormwind”. Sylvanas feigned an attack on Thunder Bluff to take revenge on Baine. In reality, however, she launched an attack on Stormwind and nearly took the city completely.
In the raid, Horde and Alliance now (temporarily) join forces to attack Sylvanas. The first boss fight is supposedly an Azerite machine that must be escorted from Goldshire to break open the city gates.
Afterwards, one fights their way through the city, alongside the great leaders of Alliance and Horde, leading up to the final battle at the harbor of Stormwind. The penultimate fight is said to take place against Nathanos, who “is decapitated by Tyrande” at the end.
All heroes die: The finale is divided into two parts, starting with a fight against Sylvanas. After a while, supposedly Bolvar (the current Lich King) appears and begins to kill leaders of the Horde. For example, Lor’themar dies. Bolvar then joins the Alliance (where his daughter Taelia also fights). Sylvanas then targets Genn Greymane, whom she shoots.
Then comes an “intermission”, a small phase with lots of dialogue. The events will cause the remaining leaders of the Horde to side with Sylvanas again.
The final battle is the fight of all leaders of the Horde against all leaders of the Alliance.
This also means that there are two versions of this boss fight. Alliance players must defeat Sylvanas, while Horde players must defeat Anduin.
Once one side is victorious, there is a cinematic. Anduin kills Sylvanas (or Sylvanas kills Anduin, depending on the faction played), but then succumbs to his own wounds. All characters, all heroes are dead, and silence falls over the harbor of Stormwind.
The heroes then awaken in the Shadowlands, the realm of the dead. There, a fleet of Helya’s ships and Sylvanas awaits, who explains that they are now “strong enough”.
Gnomes and Goblins find a solution: In the events “before the release” of the addon, the gnomes and goblins collaborate to find a way to communicate with the Shadowlands. This lays the groundwork for the new tinkerer class. This collaboration creates an item that allows players to switch between the Shadowlands and the real world – this is essentially the “Hearthstone” of patch 9.0.
How likely is the leak? It’s hard to say whether the story is true. However, it is true that Stormwind has long been the “big target” of Sylvanas. This has not only been mentioned in the game but also in the pre-history of BfA, the book “Before the Storm”. That Sylvanas has something planned for Stormwind is therefore very likely. Whether it will actually be as drastic as this supposed leak suggests remains to be seen.
Please keep in mind that this “leak” contains unconfirmed information. It is entirely possible that this is just a fake. But sometimes the theories spun in anticipation are indeed more exciting than the truth – right?
