Jaina is not particularly popular in Kul Tiras. We reveal what happens in World of Warcraft: Battle for Azeroth with the sorceress.
Jaina Proudmoore (also known as “Prachtmeer”) is one of the protagonists of Battle for Azeroth, the upcoming expansion of World of Warcraft. In the first trailer for the addon, she was seen standing a bit arrogantly but quite convincingly in front of the cities of Kul Tiras. However, for this scenario to occur, quite a bit needs to happen. The people of Kul Tiras apparently do not have much desire for Jaina.
Since this article is about the story from Battle for Azeroth, there are a few spoilers regarding the intro scenario. You have been warned.
Jaina as a Prisoner in Kul Tiras
At the beginning of “Legion,” Jaina had somewhat grandiosely announced that she would finally travel home. Jaina was referring to Kul Tiras. But contrary to fans’ assumptions, she was not there yet.
King Anduin points out that Jaina is the reason Kul Tiras left the Alliance. Therefore, it would be wisest for Jaina to travel to Kul Tiras herself to atone for her crimes.
We remember: In Warcraft 3, Jaina opposed her father Daelin Proudmoore and refused to help him, which ultimately led to his death.
We have told Jaina’s complete story in an extensive lore article.
The people of Kul Tiras apparently have not forgotten that. Because as soon as you, along with Jaina, reach the capital of Kul Tiras, you are led away by guards and escorted through the city. The scene somewhat resembles the “Walk of Shame” from Game of Thrones.
As Jaina is led through the city, you can repeatedly hear the voices of residents who stare at Jaina in shock and shout at her.
- “The Daughter of the Sea!”
- “She has returned to complete her work! Run!”
- “Traitor!”
- “Murderess!”
Afterward, Jaina has an audience with Katherine Proudmoore – her mother. The cinematic is not yet in the game, but the alpha already provides the context for the scene: Jaina places her fate in Katherine’s hands. On the advice of Lady Ashvane (another leader in Kul Tiras), Jaina is treated as a traitor and “taken away to receive justice” – the player, on the other hand, is imprisoned separately.
Folksongs Warn of Jaina
The hatred of Kul Tiras for Jaina only initially appears to be a plot device for Battle for Azeroth. This hatred is deeply rooted in the culture of the Kul Tiran people. There are now folk songs about Jaina, who is referred to as “Daughter of the Sea” (or “Daughter of the Oceans”). The song tells of her betrayal of her own father and that one should always beware of trusting her again.
Here is the complete lyrics in English, which will surely later be found in the taverns of Kul Tiras:
“Beware, beware the Daughter of the Seas.”
“Beware,” I heard him cry.
His words carried upon the ocean breeze,
As he sank beneath the tide.
Those blood-soaked shores of Kalimdor,
Where sailors fought and died.
The admiral fell at Theramore,
because she left his side.
Why this? Why this oh Daughter of the Seas?
Why this? Did you forget your seaside days?
Always the pride of our nation’s eyes,
How could she go astray?
When she did flee across the ocean deep,
the admiral followed west. What else but sail to save a daughter’s life,
and pray she still drew breath?
But there he found on the Western shores,
Enemies, on the rise!
But when he faced those savage foes
His daughter stood aside.
Buried deep beneath the waves,
Betrayed by family.
To his nation, with his last breath, cried,
“Beware the Daughter of the Seas.”
It will surely take some time before Jaina is free again and has won back the trust of the Kul Tiran people – and that is exactly what we will probably play in Battle for Azeroth.
We have more from the alpha of World of Warcraft in our alpha report from Battle for Azeroth.
