With Battle for Azeroth, the War Mode comes to World of Warcraft. Through the pre-event “War of the Thorns”, you get a preview of the features of the War Mode: Bounties and Air Drops.
War Mode features already active: If you have progressed far enough in the current pre-patch for WoW: Battle for Azeroth that world quests appear in Darkshore, you can already use some features of the new War Mode.

War of the Thorns brings Bounties and War Supplies to Darkshore
After you have unlocked the world quests in the “War of the Thorns” and visited Darkshore in War Mode, you will have access to two of the new features of the War Mode: Bounties and War Supplies.

Bounties – Hunting Opponents: In War Mode, you can freely fight players of the opposite faction. However, if you become ‘too good’, meaning if you kill too many players and collect too many conquest points, a bounty may be placed on you.
The opposing faction can then see you on the map at any time, and whoever kills you will claim a reward. However, you also receive buffs on the way to the bounty, making PvP a bit more interesting:
Soldier of the Horde/Alliance
- You receive 6 honor points for killing opposing players.
- You receive 30 honor points for killing opposing assassins.
Horde Assassins/Alliance Assassins
- You receive the buff after killing 10 opposing players in a row.
- Received healing and dealt damage increased by 15%.
- You lose the rank if you die.

War Supplies – the Air Drops of WoW: In war areas like Darkshore, airplanes occasionally fly through the air. A sound of an engine announces them, and on the way, they drop a supply crate. Battle Royale players might be familiar with this.
A crate that has landed on the ground can be used. A beam into the sky indicates its location. If you channel the use for 10 seconds, it will turn into a treasure chest of the Alliance or the Horde. Any player of the faction can loot it for a few minutes.

What is the War Mode?
The War Mode replaces PvP servers in WoW: Battle for Azeroth, which are no longer effective with the new expansion. Players in War Mode are put into a phase with other players in War Mode where they can fight each other.
In War Mode, you earn more experience and loot, but can be killed by the opposing faction. You activate the War Mode by clicking the button in your talents when you are in Stormwind or Orgrimmar.
