The mediator Ve’nari is dead. At least her body has been found. But only engineers in World of Warcraft can uncover the truth.
Patch 9.2.5 brought many small changes that are not mentioned in the patch notes. One of them concerns one of the most important characters from Shadowlands: Ve’nari. She seems to have simply disappeared. Worse still: Players have found her body.
But is the friendly mediator really dead?
Who is Ve’nari? Ve’nari is a mediator of the Cartel Ve and was of particular importance to players in the Maw. She offered the only safe place in the Maw and also had many items available that helped players in Torghast or in the Maw. Furthermore, many questlines revolved around Ve’nari, who always seemed a bit shady, but eventually helped the players.
What Ve’nari specifically wanted in the Maw was never entirely clear, but she had many hunters after her who definitely wanted to stop her.
What happened? Those who want to visit Ve’nari in Patch 9.2.5 in the Maw will notice that the mediator has become astonishingly transparent. She is no longer in her refuge and has only left an echo of herself behind, which still acts as a vendor and quest giver.
The echo says that “she has found what she is looking for” and that is Zereth Mortis. Thanks to the player, she now has “all the Stygia, so that her plan can finally bear fruit”.
However, she does not reveal exactly what this plan is.
Where is Ve’nari’s body? Those who head to the Creation Catalyst in Zereth Mortis can discover Ve’nari’s body there. She lies on the ground, and when you examine her body, you find out what happened:
<You see the smoldering corpse of Ve’nari. A look around reveals that it seems she wanted to use her supply of Stygia to interact with the machine.
Something must have gone terribly wrong.>
Most players can examine the body in more detail, but it provides no new information, only that it was “probably over quickly”.
However, if you are an engineer with some skill points in Shadowlands, you will get additional information:
<There are small, barely noticeable irregularities in this area. Most would overlook them, but your perfection of engineering and your knowledge of Ve’nari allows you to notice them.
However, you are not sure what to do with this. Perhaps time will reveal it.>
What does that mean? Above all, it likely means that Ve’nari faked her own death. Whether she wanted to deceive only rival cartels or us as players is still not entirely clear. Also, what she intends with this raises questions. Perhaps she succeeded in creating something at the Creation Catalyst that may later turn out to be particularly powerful.
Is this a secret or a teaser? The community is now speculating whether Ve’nari’s supposed corpse is just the beginning of a new, big mystery or merely a small teaser and hint that Ve’nari will reappear in an upcoming expansion.
Interestingly, there is a new toy in the files of Patch 9.2.5, namely the “Storage Wisdom Device”. So far, the item is only found in the game data and not in the collection. This could, however, mean that the toy is the reward for a mystery.
