A grind in World of Warcraft is so exhausting that most players in WoW give up before the first reward. Only gold farmers are pleased.
In World of Warcraft, there are many rewards that are tied to different challenges. Some require skill, others require luck – and some simply require an extremely large amount of time. When time is required, it is usually referred to as a grind because the same tasks must be repeated over and over. For a handful of rewards from Patch 11.1 Lorenhalt, this grind has now escalated: Diverse Mechanica is probably the worst PvE grind in the history of the game.
What do you do with Diverse Mechanica? Diverse Mechanica is a currency in Lorenhalt, even though it is not displayed in the “Currency” window but ends up in your inventory. You can exchange the Mechanica at two different vendors – for 25 of them you receive one of 3 mounts, for 5-10 you receive one of 6 different pets.
The problem: Diverse Mechanica is so rare that you have to farm intensely for weeks or months to receive even a few of the rewards. Even if you have achieved everything else in Lorenhalt, you will only possess a fraction of the necessary Diverse Mechanica.
How do you get Diverse Mechanica? In theory, there are Diverse Mechanica (“Miscellaneous Mechanica”) from several sources in Lorenhalt:
- All rare enemies (“Rare Spawns”) have a small chance of 1-2 % to drop a Diverse Mechanica. The chance is slightly increased for Elite Rares.
- Overflowing trash containers (from Fame level 13) have a chance of about 1 % to contain a Diverse Mechanica.
- The Paragon boxes of the Goblin factions have a chance to contain 1-2 Diverse Mechanica.
Gold farmers are excited about big rewards
The only ones who seem to be really happy about this type of grind are gold farmers with an army of alt characters and a lot, a lot of time. Because the rare enemies can be looted once daily per character, not per account. So, anyone with 50 characters at level 80 can farm the various rares 50 times a day and thus has multiple chances for the Diverse Mechanica. This is extremely time-consuming, but can be worth it.
With this massive number of chances, several Diverse Mechanica can be obtained per day. The mounts and pets that can be purchased with them can be sold for several million gold in the auction house, making it a relatively efficient grind to earn gold in the game.
This is how the community reacts: In the WoW subreddit, it is agreed that Diverse Mechanica is the worst grind in a very long time – if not even in the history of World of Warcraft. Some of the comments:
- “I have seen exactly 2 of them in 4 weeks, with hundreds of rare kills, maxed cartel reputation, I am doing everything. It is very bad. This is a much bigger grind than it needs to be – especially if you have no army of twinks.” – glamdr1ng

- “I have decided that this and the reputation of the Dark Infused are two reputation grinds I don’t want to waste time on. There is so much else to do and I just don’t have time for these two.” – goblocker
It is clear that this grind is among the toughest that World of Warcraft has presented in recent years. Anyone who wants all the rewards will likely spend many months in Lorenhalt – a long time, especially when the next expansion “Midnight” goes live. At least if Blizzard doesn’t change anything.
Five other mounts in The War Within are significantly easier to farm.
