This week we have an item from World of Warcraft in our “Item Spotlight” for you, which allows you to assume different roles. Basically the carnival costume of Azeroth.
With tens of thousands of items and nearly 700 toys, there are plenty of fun effects to discover in World of Warcraft. Most of them get boring pretty quickly, as the effects are almost always identical. Not so with the Mask of Many Faces. It should provide new results even after the hundredth use.
The Item Spotlight is a regularly recurring format on MeinMMO. Every few weeks we want to take a closer look at a special item from one of our supported games and clarify the most important questions. Where does the item come from? What use does it have? What is its story? We hope to point out some cool items that you may have overlooked.
What is the Coin of Many Faces? The “Coin of Many Faces” is a toy from World of Warcraft with a proud cooldown of 24 hours. The description is: “Transform into someone else.”
Exactly that is what the coin does. It transforms the appearance of your character into one of several hundred different characters. The transformation lasts exactly one hour.
But it’s not just the pure appearance that changes; other attributes of your character are also altered. If you type /joke in the chat, your character will tell a joke of the race it has transformed into. At the same time, this can lead to quite a bit of confusion, as the tooltip will show the new race for other players. If a human mage suddenly becomes a blood elf mage, that could seem rather strange.
Additionally, the transformation lasts beyond death, should you unfortunately perish in a dungeon or a battle.
However, the transformation has no impact on your faction or abilities. You remain a member of your faction (Horde or Alliance), and neither your abilities nor your racial abilities change. The effects are purely cosmetic with no gameplay advantages or disadvantages.
Especially cool: During the Hollow’s End, the cooldown of the coin is reduced from 24 hours to 60 minutes. You can then have the effect active permanently and immediately get a new one after the first transformation.
How do you get the Coin of Many Faces? The Coin of Many Faces can only be farmed during the Hollow’s End (October 18 to November 1). During this time, you need to go to Draenor and travel to Shadowmoon Valley (Warlords of Draenor). The coin drops on a small island west of Socrethar’s Wall. The highest drop chance is with Captain Bonechewer (4%). With other undead, the chance ranges between 1.3% and 2%.
The enemies present little threat to a well-equipped level 60 character and can be pulled in large numbers. On average, a coin drops every 15 to 30 minutes.
However, the coin is not bind on pickup. Since it drops relatively frequently during the Hollow’s End, many players sell it throughout the year on the auction house. Prices vary by realm and range from a few hundred gold pieces to five-digit amounts.
A final tip: If you have gold on multiple realms, check the auction houses individually. Since the coin is a toy, it goes into your collection after use and is then available to all characters across all realms.
If you’re not in a hurry and are stingy, you can wait until the Hollow’s End in October and quickly farm the coin yourself. Everyone else can just buy it at the auction house.
Do you know of any other item that should definitely be highlighted more in the “Item Spotlight”?
