Our first “Item Spotlight” for World of Warcraft features the Reflective Prism. With it, you can cause a lot of nonsense.
World of Warcraft is full of interesting items. Knowing them all is nearly impossible when even the databases list several thousand items. No wonder, over 16 years and 8 expansions, a lot has accumulated. We want to focus on an item that continually brings joy – or drives fellow players mad.
Welcome to the first Item Spotlight: Reflective Prism.
The Item Spotlight is a new, regularly returning format on MeinMMO. Every few weeks, we want to highlight a special item from one of our managed games and clarify the most important questions. Where does the item come from? What is its use? What is its story? We hope to point out a few cool items that you may have overlooked.
What is “Reflective Prism”? The Reflective Prism is a consumable item with 50 charges that allows you to swap appearances with the targeted group or raid member. For 5 minutes after use, you have the appearance of the other person. However, the transformation can be canceled if you click off the buff.
Note that the transformation is purely cosmetic. It has no effect on your abilities or movement speed.
What are the coolest combinations? Basically, there are too many to list them all. But some of the most interesting possibilities are:
- Druid shapeshifts: You can steal the shapeshifts of a Druid player. Then you could be a Bear casting fireballs as a Mage, or a cat shooting from a distance with a bow as a Hunter.
- Metamorphosis of Demon Hunters: Steal the appearance of the Demon Hunter while he has Metamorphosis active, and you will turn into a demon yourself. The effect even adapts to your gender.
- Night Fae soul shapes: A Night Fae player runs past you in their soul shape? Steal their appearance and play as a fox, turtle, or deer – whatever you could catch.
- Sandstone drakes and other mounts: Some mounts completely transform the player into another being, like the sandstone drake. This appearance can also be stolen.
Confusion for all: The Prism can, however, do much more than just swap the appearances of two people. You can also include third and fourth persons. Or even the whole raid.
If you swap appearances with Person A, you can then use the Prism on another Person B to “pass along” the appearance. This way, you can mix up the appearances of all players in the raid and create total confusion or spark entertaining conversations when the former Blood Elf suddenly becomes an Orc and starts in Discord with “Ew, I’m ugly…”.
If you have an informed ally, you can even give all players the same appearance. Here’s how:
Find your ally and swap appearances with them. Your partner must then click off the buff from the Prism. That way, you both have the same appearance – he his normal one, and you yours. Use the Prism again on him. Now you both have the buff from the Prism but still the identical appearance. Now you can use the Prism on other players to “pass on” the appearance. Repeat this until all players look identical.
Like this army of blue dragons:
Are there restrictions? Yes. There are a number of effects that cannot be stolen with the Prism. This includes some toys, but especially the Transmorphersignal. Players can visually (and audibly) transform into one of the numerous WoW bosses with it. Players affected by the Transmorphersignal cannot be targeted and altered by the Prism. There is no official explanation for this, but a plausible theory is:
As the Transmorphersignal is a “premium toy” that can only be purchased with real money, there is a desire not to let this effect be extended indefinitely – possibly by people who have never bought the toy. Another reasoning could be that players should only walk around with the appearance of a boss for a limited time, as it could lead to confusion.
How to get the “Reflective Prism”? The Prism can be crafted by jewelcrafters during the expansion “Warlords of Draenor”. Crafting the Prism is fairly cheap. It costs only 1x Magical Fire, which you can easily earn in Draenor, mainly through your Garrison’s harbor missions. A Prism has 50 charges and a transformation lasts for 5 minutes. A pretty good cost/benefit ratio.
The necessary recipe can be purchased in Warspear (Horde) or Stormshield (Alliance) on the island of Ashran. However, you will need 3x “Jewelcrafting Secret of Draenor,” which you can only craft once per day.
Basically, you can also just check the auction house. Usually, many Prisms are offered there, as the demand is quite high.
Do you use the Prism often? What kind of nonsense have you done with it? And which items should we introduce next for everyone here?
