Currently, no other game on Twitch is experiencing such growth as World of Warcraft. Although this MMORPG, which is now 18 years old, has been struggling recently, no other game in the genre is as popular right now. MeinMMO explains why.
So, where does WoW currently stand on Twitch: According to the analysis site sullygnome(LINK), World of Warcraft is currently the top trend on Twitch. With a 75% growth, it is ahead of League of Legends and Destiny 2, despite the release of the new expansion Witch Queen.
In the past 3 days, the MMORPG has achieved 6,881,055 viewer hours, placing it 5th among the most-watched games on Twitch (1st place is Just Chatting and is ignored here). This puts WoW ahead of competitor Lost Ark, which had previously been the strongest representative of the genre.
Looking at the graph, it is clear: since March 8, 2022, there has been a significant surge in viewers. Almost 3 times as many views as in the previous days.
Why do people want to watch WoW right now? On March 2, 2022, the new Patch 9.2 for Shadowlands was released. With this last patch of the expansion, the final raid was also opened: the Mausoleum of the First.
On March 8, the last difficulty, the mythic mode of the raid, was also opened. This kicked off the big World First Race in WoW: Shadowlands. This event occurs with each new raid and attracts tens of thousands of viewers every time.
World First Race attracts tens of thousands of viewers – But the biggest WoW streamer is absent
What exactly is the World First Race? In the World First Race, the largest and best guilds in the world compete to see who can defeat all bosses first. In the latest raid, there are 11 bosses, with the Alliance King Anduin Wrynn as the 8th boss and the Jailer as the final boss.
The World First Race is always associated with prestige and linked to a major event. The guilds showcase their skills and benefit from the fact that fans want to watch them. Accordingly, the biggest channels right now are those of pro gamers from WoW or the guilds themselves.
Traditionally, there has been a rivalry here for several patches between Liquid (formerly Limit or Complexity Limit) from the USA and Method and Echo from Europe. These two guilds always have an exciting neck-and-neck race for first place.
Currently, 5 guilds worldwide have already defeated 6 bosses and are currently tackling Halondrus (via wowprogress). Among the top 10 in the world is also the German guild Aversion.
What is Asmongold up to? Surprisingly, the world’s largest streamer for World of Warcraft has not shown up at all. Asmongold (cover image) has continually appeared in WoW despite recurring distractions from major events, such as new patches.
He has only played World of Warcraft on Twitch for about 3 hours at the release of Patch 9.2. Since then, however, his main content has still been Lost Ark and now also Elden Ring. He even had another look at New World.
Asmongold is not among the best players in the world in WoW and does not participate in the World First Race. Nevertheless, he could have likely benefited from the new hype. Perhaps he will show up again in the MMORPG for the next expansion:
