Blizzard has “slightly” improved the drop chances of the birthday boss in World of Warcraft. You will now get the mount and toy guaranteed.
In World of Warcraft, the anniversary event celebrating the game’s 17th birthday is currently running. There are a number of familiar content pieces, but also a few fresh additions, such as a special boss with two exclusive rewards. However, these have been a bit too exclusive – so Blizzard has now patched it. From now on, obtaining the rewards is guaranteed.
What was the problem? The new boss, the Tormentor of Souls, only drops his special loot in rare cases. The mount Illidari Felstalker and the toy Trophy of the Tormented Watcher are extremely sought after by collectors. After all, these items are only available during these 3 weeks of the year. The fact that such special items are only available for a short time creates stress and resulting dissatisfaction when the item just won’t drop.
What did Blizzard change? They quickly raised the drop chance for the mount and toy to 100%. Anyone who kills the boss from today (and is at least level 30) will get the toy and mount guaranteed. Therefore, long farming sessions are eliminated.
This does not apply retroactively, though. So you must defeat the boss at least one more time if you want to snag the rewards.
Why did Blizzard change this? It is not entirely clear. However, it is likely that the players’ concerns led to this. Many players were worried about not getting the mount in time since the event only lasts 3 weeks. For this reason, many players repeatedly defeated the boss with dozens of characters in the last days. This was monotonous and led to frustration.
Now, just a one-time visit to the boss in Tanaris is enough to guarantee the most important rewards – the toy and mount.
Have you already collected the loot?
