In World of Warcraft there is much to collect. Over 50 mounts and pets are coming in Patch 9.2 – but you won’t farm them in the usual way.
Patch 9.2 Eternity’s End will be released soon and brings numerous new features. Alongside a new “Mythic+” season, a new raid, and a new campaign, a lot of collectible stuff in the form of mounts and battle pets is also coming. And the best part? You can craft them yourself, as a new system in Zereth Mortis makes this possible.
What kind of system is this? The system is called “Protoform Synthesis” and is one of the progression systems from Korthia, which will be unlocked after Chapter 3 of the campaign – so already in the first week. This gives you access to the “Cipher of the First,” with which you will develop more and more understanding of the language of the First. Ultimately, you need to unlock the progress “Understanding of Dacaparic” after which you will obtain the Protoform Synthesis quest.
What materials do you need? Each mount and pet requires a total of 4 different materials.
- Blueprints: Just like with crafting professions, many blueprints must first be found in the form of recipes. Some can be found from the beginning, others are simply lying around in Zereth Mortis, while others can be obtained from treasures or certain rare enemies.
- Frameworks: Frameworks are basically the “skeleton” of the being you want to create. If your creature belongs to the species of Cervids, you need to acquire a Cervid frame. These drop with a low probability from various Cervid mobs in Zereth Mortis. So you know what to farm.
- Rare and shimmer items: Depending on whether you want to create a mount or a battle pet, you will need a specific rare item. Items like “Tools of Incomprehensible Experiments” or “Eternal Wrath Pearl” come from various sources and are used for mounts. The rare shimmer items needed for pets can be found in many different places, with names like “Shimmer of Vigilance” or “Shimmer of Movement.”
- Genesis particles: Genesis particles are a currency you can find throughout Zereth Mortis. Nearly all elementals and creatures in the area drop Genesis particles, so sooner or later, you’ll have enough to cover the costs for pets (300 particles) or mounts (400 particles).
Basically, the idea behind it is: Most items are fairly easy to obtain. However, those who want everything will need to invest some time into the system.
Has there ever been something like this before? Yes. Basically, the system strongly resembles the crafting of mechanical items in Mechagon, back in Patch 8.2 of Battle for Azeroth. There, too, you had to find recipes and components to create toys, mounts, or really useful gear. This time, however, the system seems to focus primarily on purely cosmetic items – namely mounts and pets.
If you don’t want to farm, you don’t have to. However, similar to what happened back in Mechagon, the system can consume a lot of time if you really want everything. Whether you “grind for several days” or just do a few minutes every day on the side, every collector fan has to decide for themselves.
Are you looking forward to the many new mounts and pets? Or would you prefer everything to be obtained the traditional way through rare mob drops?
