The dungeon rating gains more influence in World of Warcraft: Item upgrades are tied to the system that Blizzard adopted from the site Raider.io.
With Patch 9.1 Chains of Domination World of Warcraft is overhauling a few systems that were just introduced. The upgrading of items from dungeons via valor points will be altered. In the future, you will need a specific dungeon rating if you want to upgrade items.
What has changed? Even in Patch 9.1 you can collect valor points through mythic dungeons and callings. These can again be used to upgrade items from “Mythic+” dungeons. But only if you have achieved the corresponding dungeon rating.
What is the dungeon rating? The dungeon rating is a new value that indicates how successful and efficient you are at mastering mythic keystone dungeons. Most people will already know this value from the (controversial) site “Raider.io” (also called “rio”).
This value will become an integral part of World of Warcraft and shows all players what achievements you have already made. This is intended to make group formation easier, as all players can directly see how experienced their teammates are.
What are the thresholds? To upgrade loot from “Mythic+” dungeons, you need to achieve the corresponding dungeon rating. This is comparable to the 3 dungeon achievements that were already in Patch 9.0.5. The corresponding thresholds are:
| Item level | Required dungeon rating |
| 229 | 750 |
| 233 | 750 |
| 236 | 1,500 |
| 239 | 1,500 |
| 242 | 2,000 |
| 246 | 2,000 |
How do you get a high rating? Basically, just like with the Raider.io score. If you complete high-level keystone dungeons within the time limit, you earn a high dungeon rating. To reach the necessary mark of 2,000, you need to successfully finish all dungeons on “Mythic+15” within the time – both during a “tyrannical” week and a “fortified” week.
The change is generally seen as “logical”, but some players are also dissatisfied. They would rather have the old system back and no built-in RIO value as a requirement.
In fact, the requirements are nearly identical to the currently existing ones in World of Warcraft.
How do you feel about this change to the upgrading system? Is it logical and good to link it to the dungeon rating? Or was it better before?
