World of Warcraft talks about the great rewards for January – but one is so small that it disappears under Transmog among other things.
The trading post has been a source of joy for many players in World of Warcraft since its introduction. Every month there are fresh rewards. Blizzard is already revealing what will be available in January – but the feedback is negative. Many perceive the final reward as a bad joke.
What is the trading post? The trading post was introduced in February 2023 and is a new way to earn Transmog items, mounts, toys, and other cosmetic rewards.
To purchase these items, you need trader’s currency. Subscribers to WoW receive a part of it for free every month, while another part has to be earned through special tasks in the “Travel Journal” – there is something for every type of player, from PvE to PvP, to collecting tasks or more playful missions.
Additionally, there is always a “completion reward” when you completely fill out the travel journal for a month. Typically, this is supposed to be the “best” item of the respective month – at least that was the original plan.
However, the trading post is sometimes criticized as well, since the number of items per month has been increased and occasionally trader’s currency can be bought as part of packages with real money.
What is this reward? In January, there is a “Golden Pocket Watch” for completing the travel journal. This is a Transmog item for wrist guards. Your character will then wear a golden wristwatch on the left wrist – at least, if you are not wearing long sleeves or thick gloves that could cover it.
What is the criticism? Even though some are happy about the golden wristwatch, there is also a lot of criticism. In the various comment sections, such as in the WoW subreddit, most players are rather disappointed. Blizzard originally wanted to design it so that the “most desirable” item of a month would be the final reward you get for free. The fact that it is now a “small mini-watch” and not, for example, the Transmog set or one of the mounts, is upsetting to many.

Others, however, note that the watch is a unique Transmog that doesn’t exist in this form yet, and therefore the status as “special item of the month” is already justified. Particularly role-players, who often maintain a more “casual look” for their characters, might enjoy this.
