Countless trolls stormed the server Feathermoon in World of Warcraft. It was colorful, loud, and bright – but served a pretty good purpose.
In World of Warcraft, there are a number of events that, while not officially offered by Blizzard, have a good reputation in the community. One of these events is the annual “Running of the Trolls,” which took place for the 6th time this year. Hundreds of trolls ran for their lives in WoW – and raised money for a good cause.
Here’s how it went down: As usual, the event took place on the realm Feathermoon (US). Here, the trolls gathered at the spawn point, which is on the Echo Islands. However, this year, some Zandalari trolls joined in, making the overall scene even more colorful and mixed – but that’s exactly what it’s about.
Together with various rainbow toys and colorful hairstyles or clothing, the trolls then set off as a large group. They marched through Durotar to Orgrimmar and from there took the portal to Undercity. From there they continued through Tirisfal and the Plaguelands. Some trolls had to give their lives here, as the area guards and the corresponding mobs can hit pretty hard.
Ultimately, the route continued into the Ghostlands, the Sunstrider Isle, and finally to the capital of the blood elves, Silvermoon. Here, the countless trolls celebrated for a while and wrapped the area in front of the Sunspire Tower in vibrant colors.
What is being supported? The event primarily calls for a donation campaign. The collected money goes to “The Trevor Project.” This is a U.S. hotline for young lesbians, gays, bisexuals, and transgender people (LGBTQ). The money is directly used to help these youths with problems and provide them with support. They are particularly specialized in suicide prevention, which unfortunately occurs more frequently among these groups.
How much money was raised? Over the entire month of June, a total of over $6,000 was raised. The original target of $2,000 was exceeded by more than three times. Thus, the troll run in 2020 can also be regarded as quite a success.
What do you think of such actions? Cool, especially if it serves a good purpose? Or does it have no place in games?
