In a few hours, WoW: Shadowlands will launch. But how do you get to the Shadowlands? Where does the quest start?
Tonight, it finally begins, right at 12:00 AM, World of Warcraft: Shadowlands launches and ushers in the era of the 8th expansion. But how do you actually get to the Shadowlands and where does the journey start? Do you need to visit a specific location and do you need a quest to start?
How do you get the quest? To receive the quest, you must, of course, have purchased the “Shadowlands” expansion. Then you only need a character at level 48 or higher. The character should receive a quest automatically at midnight – or shortly thereafter. But make sure you also have space in your quest log! You should quickly get rid of old quests.
If you do not receive the quest immediately at midnight, it may be necessary to log out and log back in. This has helped many players in previous expansions. However, please keep in mind that you only log out until character selection and do not completely close the game. Otherwise, you will have to go through the login servers and this can indeed become a problem at release, as they are often overloaded.
How do you get to Shadowlands? Basically, the questline is self-explanatory. After a visit to your capital (Stormwind or Orgrimmar), it leads you to Icecrown, where the former Lich King Bolvar Fordragon inspects the shards of the Helm of Domination. The remaining leaders of the Horde and Alliance plan to venture into the Shadowlands and rescue Anduin, Baine, and the other heroes. You will join them and shortly thereafter find yourself in the Shadowlands – but directly in the Horrific Maw.
The questline in the Maw serves almost as an “introductory scenario” and is meant to clarify what the great threat in the Shadowlands is. You should plan for 30 to 40 minutes for the questline – possibly more if too many players thin out the quest mobs.
After that, you will land in Oribos, the capital in the Shadowlands. From here, you simply follow the offered quests and then begin your journey in the leveling areas of Shadowlands. You cannot get lost and there is also no area selection. The storyline is linear and spans all major zones.
Are you ready for the launch? Will you game all night? Or will you only start when things have calmed down a bit?
