The second season of The War Within has begun, and with it, the hunt for the best equipment. To give you a little head start and to quickly replace your gear from the first season, you should take every possible trick. Especially Depth fans will benefit, as they can guarantee themselves an item with item level 649 today. This should be a significant upgrade for pretty much all characters.
Item level 649 – and all by yourself
What steps need to be taken? In the WoW subreddit, the player Harldan has posted a small tip. With Season 2, the way you obtain treasure maps in the Depths has changed. You can now only find one treasure map per character and week, but it is guaranteed if you approach it correctly.
- Complete your 4 “rich” Depths, preferably at level 8. These are the Depths indicated by an open, bright gate. By completing these Depths, you will earn just over 2,000 Loren coins (the new “Depth currency” of this season).
- Buy the item “Wellenwirbler 2000” from the coin vendor in Dornogal.
- Visit any Depth and fight your way to the Stone of Restoration, which is essentially the “checkpoint” of the Depth.
- Use the Wellenwirbler 2000. Shortly thereafter, Nemesis, the boss of Season 2, will appear. This boss guarantees a treasure map of the Depths (if you haven’t received one this week).
- Now visit a Depth of level 8 (or higher) and use the treasure map. At the end of this Depth, you will find a chest that is guaranteed to contain an item with item level 649.
If you use the treasure map in an even tougher Depth, you will also get some gilded crests for upgrading as a bonus. However, the difficulty is significantly increased here.
Note that you can also simply find your treasure map in the Depths during this whole time. In that case, you will save a lot of time and resources.
Is it worth it? The entire process takes between 1 and 2 hours, but it is a great way to get a nice upgrade just before the first raid night. On the side, you also level up Brann and, of course, unlock rewards from the weekly treasure chamber.
If you want, you can repeat this strategy on all your characters, although this obviously requires a lot of time. However, it is clear that Blizzard has made the Depths even more rewarding in Season 2. Especially at the start of the season, they are an extremely strong source of solid equipment – and even later they are worth it because of the crests that can be obtained there.
