For players of World of Warcraft, exciting times have just begun. Not only has the spam from boosting offers been drastically reduced, but in the future, horde and alliance characters will be able to embark on adventures together and form groups. Cross-faction play is coming.
This is a feature that many in the community have been requesting for years – but what do you think, the readers of MeinMMO? We want to know how you feel about this feature.
What will be possible? Players from the alliance and horde will be able to join groups together and communicate in group chat. They can then visit dungeons, complete raids, or explore rated PvP battlegrounds together.
This is possible if players either have a Battle.net or Real-ID friendship, belong to a cross-faction community, or apply to join a group through the dungeon browser that accommodates both factions.
What will not be possible? The fundamental hostility status in the open world does not change. If two players from different factions are engaged in war mode and in a group, they can still attack each other. Cooperation – such as granting buffs or healing – is only possible within organized actions like dungeons.
In random groups, such as through the random dungeon tool, you will always end up only with players from your own faction in a group. You will never cooperate randomly with the other side.
But now let’s talk about you! What do you think of the announcement of this feature? Do you think it’s a good idea? Or does it only lead WoW into new problems?
When will the feature come? Cross-faction play is being tested on the PTR of patch 9.2.5, which will likely only start once patch 9.2 is released, which still has no release date. So, it will take at least 3 months until the feature is released, probably even longer.
