The final boss in WoW: Shadowlands has been defeated. The last cinematic has been released, sealing the fate of the Jailer.
For a few hours now, the last 3 bosses in the Mausoleum of the First, the current WoW raid, have become accessible. In America, the Jailer has just been defeated for the first time – unlocking the cinematic that plays at the end of the battle.
Spoiler alert: If you do not want to know what happens next with the Jailer, you should not continue reading. You have been warned.
When does the cinematic play? The cinematic plays right after the last battle in the current raid, Mausoleum of the First. The Jailer tried to destroy Azeroth with his magic and reshape the cosmos using the other Zereth devices. The heroes interrupt him, and ultimately succeed in defeating the Jailer.
What is shown in the cinematic? In the cinematic, we see how the Jailer slowly loses his powers. He has been defeated and his perfection of domination magic is fading. As his armor disintegrates, the other leaders of the covenants speak to him, reprimanding him for his transgressions. Among them is Denathrius, who would have proposed a “different path” for the Jailer, in which both could have worked together.
More and more of the Jailer’s strength is lost until he disintegrates and ultimately is only what he originally was – a lifeless automa, as created by the First.
However, Zovaal still has a few final words. For he believes that a “divided universe cannot prevail against what is to come.” He apparently knows of a new (even greater) threat that approaches and even surpasses the cosmos.
The veil that was torn between Azeroth and the Shadowlands closes again.
Is there more to come? Yes. Even though the raid has now been completed, the story of Shadowlands is not over yet. There are still a few story chapters to come, including one that will likely involve a confrontation between Tyrande and Sylvanas. However, this is currently just speculation, as new models for both have been found in the game data. The secret final chapter has also been teased by the developers.
What do you think of the end of the Jailer? Good that he is finally history? Or a very unsatisfying ending?
How World of Warcraft will proceed now, we will find out in a few weeks. Because already in April Blizzard plans to reveal the next expansion.
