The race for the “World First Kill” in World of Warcraft is nearing its end – two professional guilds are in a fierce competition.
In World of Warcraft, the so-called “World First” race has been running for almost a week now. The best guilds in the world are trying to defeat the current end boss Raszageth on mythic difficulty. In the meantime, two guilds have reached the Storm Eater and are in an exciting race. However, the road there has been rather lengthy.
This is the current status: The “World First” race is in full swing now, and the first guilds are already on the home stretch. Team Liquid (formerly known as “Limit”) and Echo have both arrived at “Raszageth, the Storm Eater” and are trying to blow out the virtual life lights of the last boss.
Currently, Team Liquid is in the lead, although that doesn’t mean much yet.
- Team Liquid’s best pull was at 70.43% remaining health points.
- Echo’s best attempt was 86.41% remaining health points.
It is important to mention that Team Liquid has already made 34 attempts on Raszageth, while Echo has only given it one try after 4 attempts.
Later, both guilds will continue when the professionals are well-rested and approach the challenge with fresh energy.

Liquid is leading, but the lead is thin: Basically, Team Liquid has the advantage so far and has claimed the most “First Kills” for themselves. Of the 7 bosses killed so far, Liquid was the first guild to achieve victory on 5 of them. Only Eranog and the Primal Council were credited to “Vesper”.
Even though Team Liquid currently has a significant lead, that could change quickly. Because Echo has been extremely good at catching up. For most bosses, Echo needed significantly fewer attempts than Team Liquid, even though they were later. For example, Bruthüterin Diurna (Boss 7) was down for Echo after 47 attempts, while Team Liquid needed a total of 85 attempts. Also, Kurog Grimmtotem (Boss 6) was completed by Echo after 20 attempts, while Team Liquid had to take 57 attempts to advance.
It remains exciting.

What are other guilds doing? Even though it looks a bit lonely at the top with Echo and Liquid, other guilds are still involved in the race. Especially “BDGG” (Big Dumb Gaming Guild) is in 3rd place and has currently defeated 5 of 8 bosses. “Instant Dollars” has also managed to defeat 5 bosses already.
Further behind are the professionals from Method, who have currently only defeated “only” 4 of 8 bosses and are in 5th place. It seems unlikely that they will catch up here.
Criticism of the start of the race: However, many viewers and also the casters who accompany the “World First” race have raised some criticism regarding the conduct of the race. Because the first days of the race were essentially just preparations. Instead of diving directly into the mythic mode, almost all guilds chose to first visit normal and heroic modes to farm better equipment and thus improve the performance of their players.
For the viewers, this was relatively boring, as in normal and heroic mode “there is nothing at stake” – and watching the professionals spend hours on warm-up rounds against the easier versions of the bosses was only limitedly entertaining.
That’s why the raid launch was unusual: With the Vault of the Incarnations, Blizzard tried something new. Normally, the mythic difficulty starts with a one-week delay.
However, Blizzard chose to launch the raid simultaneously to accommodate the professional guilds a bit. Because if the raid had started a week later – on December 21 – it would have been highly likely that the race would have stretched over the Christmas holidays. This would have put a lot of pressure on the professional players, who would rather spend time with their families during Christmas.
Whether Blizzard will aim for a simultaneous launch of all difficulties for the next raid is questionable.
