Are loot boxes making their way into World of Warcraft? At least in China, they are now available, albeit in a strange form.
Those playing World of Warcraft in China may have been a bit confused by Blizzard’s latest offering. To kick off the Chinese New Year celebrations, there is a special offer for the Chinese player base.
Those who decide to purchase 180 days of game time (6-month subscription) will receive the mount Shu-Zen, the Celestial Guardian – a currently exclusive mount in China.
Loot Boxes as an Additional Incentive
However, many players are not bothered by the mount Shu-Zen, but rather by the small extra bonus that comes with the purchase of the different offers.
Those who take advantage will receive up to 5 Landros Gift Boxes – a loot chest with random contents.
This chest originates from the days of Classic and was originally linked to the WoW Trading Card Game. Those who purchased many game cards could collect these boxes in WoW.
Landros Gift Box contains random items from the Trading Card Game. These are toys like Papa Hummel’s Old-Fashioned Pet Cake, which allows pets to grow larger, but also rare pets like the Astral Soul Trader. The really rare items are mounts, such as the Spectral Tiger, which typically cost several million gold.
In light of the loot box debate, many players are now wondering: Is Blizzard selling loot boxes in World of Warcraft in this way? Or is this just a small extra bonus as an incentive to sign up for a subscription until the release of Battle for Azeroth?
Whether this offer will also come to Europe remains uncertain. There are currently no indications of that.
