A new hotfix has removed the cap for Soul Ash in World of Warcraft. However, this doesn’t really help Twinks.
What has been done? Just a few hours ago we reported that Blizzard is making massive changes to the tank classes. But the hotfix has brought another change that has gone live in the game immediately. The cap for Soul Ash has been removed from World of Warcraft – the cap is history.
Previously, players could accumulate a maximum of 8,000 Soul Ash, and any additional ash was lost. This limit has now been removed, so players can collect and hoard Soul Ash beyond that.
What do you need Soul Ash for? Soul Ash serves a single purpose in WoW: Shadowlands. You need it to create or upgrade legendary items. Crafting the best possible legendary item costs around 5,000 Soul Ash, allowing you to save up for about 1.5 legendary items – purely from the ash value.

Players are confused and dissatisfied: Most players do not react well to the change so far. While many agree that the cap never made much sense from the beginning, the removal doesn’t change anything now. Instead, many wish for some kind of “catch-up” Soul Ash for Twinks. These often have to wait weeks before they can craft a good legendary and effectively play along.
Many wished that excess Soul Ash from the main character could be sent to a Twink – perhaps even with a bit of loss of Soul Ash along the way.
Who benefits from this? That’s a good question. Currently, it seems that only a few players benefit from this who have already reached the cap. These could be players who are waiting for the drop of a special legendary power that has so far eluded them.
Otherwise, the change may only be interesting for collectors. Players who want to have all legendary items for their class in the long term can save towards this goal. However, since only one legendary item can be equipped at a time, no one is likely to be in a hurry to achieve this goal.
Thus, the only benefit currently seems to be the nice feeling of still getting Soul Ash after the weekly Torghast run, even though you could not accumulate any before.
What do you think about the change? Reasonable and good? Or is it as pointless as the cap beforehand?
