A new quest in World of Warcraft is currently exciting many players. It is likely one of the best questlines that WoW has ever had.
Some players complain that content in World of Warcraft is hidden behind “timegates”. This was also the case for a questline of the blue dragonflight, which has been accessible since the maintenance work last Wednesday. Many have overlooked this questline so far, as it plays a little “off the beaten path” of the Zaralek Caverns.
But that is a big mistake: For this questline is one of the best of all time and combines stories from all past expansions.
What kind of questline is this? The series begins with the mission “The Veiled Ossuary” and you can accept it in Valdrakken or from Kalecgos in the Azure Mountains.
After only a few blue dragons have followed Kalecgos’ call in the Dragonflight campaign, he, along with the simulacrum of Sindragosa, tries to locate more blue dragons and slowly fulfill the role of the flight.
The questline is one that should be approached with some time – and best done without hanging out on Discord or watching any YouTube videos. It is full of optional dialogues, many small details, and – I think most importantly – is a reunion with countless ancient characters that players haven’t heard from in a long time.
Gravestones for the blue dragons
The series begins with a small journey alongside Senegos – the ancient blue dragon you met in Legion in Azsuna. He has the task of managing and keeping the gravestones of the blue dragonflight up to date.
Dragons immortalize their names on gravestones during their lifetime, which are then updated.
The mission, however, hits an emotional nerve. For as we update the gravestones together, it is bound to evoke some memories, especially for long-term veterans. Behind quite a few names, we change the entry from “Alive” to “Was killed by adventurers”, “Fell victim to the Legion” or “Died in the Nexus War”.
Anyone who does not take the time to really read the entries here misses a nostalgic ride through the past of WoW and the experiences of their own character.

After this “funeral”, the questline is far from over. Kalecgos gives you the task of searching the rest of the world for other members of the blue dragonflight – and he means it literally.
Do you still remember Azuregos, the former world boss from Azshara? Mages dealt with him during Legion – now everyone gets to see what he has been up to in the Nexus in recent years.
Or do you still remember Haleh? She is a blue dragon in the form of a high elf in Wintergrasp, searching the land for magical relics. She was already a quest giver in “Vanilla” and her research continued in Cataclysm. Throughout the quest, we learn that she is still searching for dangerous relics in Wintergrasp and we must convince her to temporarily interrupt her seemingly endless task.
Theramore is also worth a look. The city was devastated by Garrosh with a Mana Bomb – and now new mages have gathered there.
Throughout the questline, you will travel around the entire world. You will visit Wintergrasp, travel to Northrend, stop by Booty Bay, and see what the blue dragons have been up to in recent years and what problems they are facing. Most of these quests are voiced – Blizzard really put in the effort here.
I don’t want to spoil the outcome of the story here, as you should experience that for yourself. But the path to getting there is a journey through the long history of World of Warcraft, connecting many events and showing the impact of significant changes in the world – from the Lich King Arthas to the portal to the Shadowlands.
There is a special extra for all casters who own the Legendary “Dragonwrath, Tarecgosa’s Rest” from the Cataclysm expansion. After completing the questline, you can finish a bonus quest to also lay the spirit of Tarecgosa to rest. You will then receive Tarecgosa as a permanent mount that is no longer tied to the staff! However, this mount – for now – is not suitable for dragonriding, even though that is likely to change in an upcoming patch.
