The Corruption system in WoW would be easy to fix from the perspective of many fans. Blizzard has done that – but only on the tournament realms.
The Corruption system is one of the major features of Patch 8.3 Visions of N’Zoth, the current update of World of Warcraft. Especially because it significantly affects characters and can lead to high damage numbers, there are many critics and just as many ideas on how to improve the system.
Blizzard now provides a solution for this – but it will probably never reach the official WoW realms.
What is the problem? The problem with the Corruption items and the associated effects is that they are assigned randomly, similar to how the Titanforging system used to work. With a bit of luck, players get overpowering items with extremely strong effects that increase their performance by up to 30%.
However, those who are unlucky may end up with nothing or receive inferior effects that have little usefulness. This leads to frustration for many players.
Problem fixed on tournament servers: On special realms, Blizzard holds the “MDI” tournament, the “Mythic Dungeon International”. Here, WoW players participate as a group and prove that they can complete difficult dungeons in extremely short time.
The special feature of the MDI server is that players can not only freely choose their equipment, but also have complete freedom with the Corruption effects. Similar to enchantments on scrolls, they simply select the corresponding Corruption at the desired rank and then apply it to their item.
This way, the “perfect” character with exactly the right Corruption properties can be created.
Why is this allowed on the tournament server? On the tournament realms, participants can create a character to their liking and equip it exactly as they want. This way, all participants have the same starting conditions, and factors like “loot luck” do not play a role in the race for the best times. This way, the developers create equality of opportunity.
This is what players want: Some players now wish that such a system would also come to the live servers, allowing players to specifically work towards individual Corruption effects, similar to how it was with the legendary items at the end of Legion.
Here, players could collect a new resource and exchange it for legendary items of their choice. Players desire something similar for the Corruption effects. Some suggestions from players:
Hmm, they could add an item that lets you scratch and keep the Corruption from items to then apply it to another item or sell it. In that case, they would keep their valuable RNG while giving players a bit more responsibility.

My idea for Corruption would be that we “learn” the Corruption effects we glean from items, and then we can use [Corrupted] mementos to apply them to other items.

However, there are also a few opposing voices who disagree, such as shabisbigugly:
I’m not sure how fun it would really be if everyone just runs around with “Gaping Wound” on every piece of equipment.
Whether Blizzard will address this request and the introduction of account-wide essence unlocking before the release of Shadowlands remains questionable. Because there will not be a Patch 8.3.5.
