The giant sword in Silithus is still present after 2 WoW expansions. Will it stay now? Is that even a problem?
For some players, it may have already been forgotten, but many fans of World of Warcraft are still wondering what actually happened with the big sword that is still stuck in Azeroth. The Game Director of WoW has now provided an answer that probably won’t please everyone. Because apparently, the problem with the sword has long been resolved.
What kind of sword is this? The sword belonged to Sargeras, the leader of the Burning Legion. At the end of the “Legion” expansion, he attempted to completely destroy Azeroth. However, he did not succeed in destroying the planet, but he was able to ram the blade deep into the planet. This resulted in the life blood of Azeroth, the “Azerite,” emerging everywhere in the world leading to the next major battle between Horde and Alliance.
What has been said now? In an interview with Buffed, the Game Director of World of Warcraft, Ion Hazzikostas, answered a question about the sword in Silithus. Buffed wanted to know if there are larger revisions in Azeroth, after all, the sword is still present. Hazzikostas responded:
We used our Artifact weapons in 2018 to purify the corruption from the sword. Everything is fine there. It’s just a big shard now. […]
In fact, that was a quest line that was only available for a relatively short time. The heroes had to sacrifice the accumulated artifact power and the strength of their weapons to purify the “poison” that was emanating from the blade and threatening the planet.
However, for many players, this seems to have been forgotten. After all, for most, it was just the event where the artifact weapons lost all their strength.
Why is this relevant? This topic has come up repeatedly over the years. Many players apparently believe that something should be done with this gigantic sword that is still deep in the planet’s crust. However, Hazzikostas has confirmed once again: This is simply not an acute danger, as the threat posed by the sword has long been contained.
Thus, the sword in Silithus remains only one thing: A monument.
What do you think of the answer? Is it okay if the sword now simply remains in Silithus forever? Or should the heroes of Azeroth somehow take care of it?
