A pretty fancy mount has landed in the shop of World of Warcraft. Many of you may have already received it “for free”.
World of Warcraft no longer makes its money just from selling expansions or subscription fees, but also from the in-game shop. This is regularly stocked with mounts, pets, or more recently also toys and transmog sets. Recently, a new mount was added to the shop.
What kind of mount is this? The “Nether-Gorged Greatwyrm” is, as the name suggests, a quite large and fairly detailed mana wyrm.
Visually, the mount seems made for blood elf characters. The saddle and bridle are in golden and red colors, while greenish jewels resemble Fel crystals – this is the same color palette that adorns the blood elf city of Silvermoon. The golden “wing” applications and the head and saddle also strongly remind one of the insignia and aesthetics of the Sin’dorei.
How to get the mount? The wyrm is part of a new promotional action. Anyone who subscribes for 6 months for World of Warcraft will receive the mount as a bonus – in addition to the general 15% discount that a long-term subscription already brings.
What if you already have a subscription? Those who already have an active 6-month subscription need not be upset – you will also receive the Nether-Gorged Greatwyrm. Whether new subscriber or loyal long-term customer with a permanent 6-month subscription, you will get the mount.
However, be aware that it may take a few days for the mount to appear as a gift in your Battle.net app. Once that happens, you have until December 31, 2022, to activate the mount with a click on “Redeem”.
Can you also buy the mount separately? Yes, that is possible. If you do not want to commit to World of Warcraft for 6 months but are still taken by the Nether-Gorged Greatwyrm, you can also directly purchase it in the shop. Then the mount costs a respectable 25 euros. So, if you want, you can also earn the mount indirectly with in-game gold through the WoW token.
Community reactions: As usual with a new shop mount, reactions on YouTube are rather devastating. It has become common to downvote absolutely every video about a new shop mount in WoW. The comments show clear aversion as well, here are some examples:
- “*presses dislike* How many times do we need to teach you this lesson, old man?”
- “You keep ruining the game, thank you.”
- “Another reskin of the worm model. 10/10, would not buy.”
However, if you look around on fan sites, the mood seems to be rather mixed to positive. On wowhead, for example, many players like the look of the mount, especially in combination with the legacy armor of the blood elves. But there is also criticism that the mount might have fit better in another part of the game:
- “It’s even translucent. Are those the ribs? That’s pretty fantastic… I think I want it… very.”
- “Oh my god, that looks amazing. If this is any indication of how they design mounts in Dragonflight, then I am excited.”
- “Simple and straightforward: This should have been the mount for the blood elf campaign in patch 9.2.5 instead of this poorly resolved green falconer…”
