We show you how to unlock flying in WoW: Shadowlands. In the overview, you can see the requirements and locations.
Players can also mount their flying mounts in World of Warcraft: Shadowlands and explore the four major areas from the air – at least once flying has been unlocked. This has been possible since Patch 9.1 Chains of Domination, and we will reveal what you need to do in order to fly in Shadowlands.
What requirements must be fulfilled? To unlock flying, you must have completed the original covenant campaign on the corresponding character. This is the basic requirement that you cannot bypass. After that, you need to take care of the following things:
- Reach Glory Level 44: You probably completed this alongside. If not, finish a few campaign quests or visit dungeons.
- Play the new covenant chapter: At Glory Level 44, you unlock the next chapter of the covenant campaign called “The Last Seal.” Play this chapter all the way to the end. Just follow the quest progression, and you won’t miss anything.
Once you have done this, you will receive the item “Memories of the Sunless Sky”.
Use it – and voilà! You have unlocked flying in Shadowlands!
Flying in Shadowlands – Where can you do this?
Who can fly? Once you have unlocked the flying capability on one character, it automatically applies to your entire account. From then on, all characters in the four main areas of the Shadowlands can fly. This also applies to characters under level 60 who are still in the leveling phase. Therefore, you can already take off in the Shadowlands starting from level 50 and drastically shorten many time-consuming tasks.
Where can you fly? Flying is generally possible in all areas of the four covenants. These are:
- Bastion (Kyrians)
- Maldraxxus (Necrolords)
- Ardenweald (Night Fae)
- Revendreth (Venthyr)
What does flying in the Shadowlands bring? Basically, it saves time. Most activities are significantly faster with a flying mount, as you can cover more distance in a shorter time and simply fly over obstacles. This makes you more effective when:
- Leveling twinks and flying directly to mission objectives
- Completing world quests, for example, to farm Anima
- Farming herbs and ores to gather materials for professions or for sale
How can you fly in Zereth Mortis? If you want to unlock flying in the endgame zone “Zereth Mortis,” you need to complete a few additional steps. We explain this in our guide to unlocking flying in Zereth Mortis.
Where can’t you fly? A flying ban still exists in the Maw and therefore also in the new mini-area Korthia. There you must continue to rely on ground mounts and cannot simply look down on the problems from the sky.
