We reveal how you can master the invasions of the Legion in World of Warcraft.
The Legion Attacks Azeroth
With the current patch of World of Warcraft, the invasion of the Burning Legion has begun. Regularly, entire hordes of demons land at various locations across Azeroth. We reveal the important details of the event.
To find out where the demon invasion is currently happening, a look at the map of Azeroth or Kalimdor is sufficient. Invasions can take place in a total of 6 areas:
- Hillsbrad Foothills (Eastern Kingdoms)
- Dun Morogh (Eastern Kingdoms)
- Westfall (Eastern Kingdoms)
- Azshara (Kalimdor)
- Desolace (Kalimdor)
- Tanaris (Kalimdor)
Currently, 2 new invasions appear every 4 hours. A single invasion remains available for 4 hours, during which it can be completed. Currently, the invasions start at the following times: 1:00 AM – 5:00 AM – 9:00 AM – 1:00 PM – 5:00 PM – 9:00 PM
However, the frequency will increase in the coming days and weeks, so that more invasions will occur faster until “Legion” is actually released.
What to Do During the Invasion?
Each invasion takes place in 4 different phases.
- Phase 1: The center of the area (a city/settlement) is attacked by the Legion. Here, the goal is to eliminate as many demons as possible to fill the progress bar.
- Phase 2: A demon commander attacks the respective city/settlement with 2 officers. Defeat all 3 abominations, and a small Legion chest awaits.
- Phase 3: This phase is the actual invasion. Constructs of the Legion are erected throughout the zone, commanders and structures appear. Again, the goal is to fill a progress bar. This can be achieved not only by killing demons but also by freeing prisoners and healing the wounded.
- Phase 4: The respective commander of the invasion attacks the city/settlement. This boss is not easy to defeat even for larger groups, as many abilities can quickly kill even well-equipped heroes. A bit of skill is necessary – a steady approach from the nearby graveyard works as well. The final victory over the invasion is rewarded with a large Legion chest.
Tip: If you want to collect as many Nether Shards as possible, Phase 3 is particularly important. Because Nether Shards are awarded not only for completing a single phase but also for defeating notable commanders of the Legion. These are marked on the map with green skulls. Anyone participating in the fight against a commander (and defeating them) will receive 5-9 Nether Shards afterward. Throughout the entire Phase 3 of an invasion, it’s certainly possible to defeat 7-12 of these commanders (sometimes more or less). This way, you can collect around 40-80 shards in one invasion.
What Can You Do with the Nether Shards?
The Nether Shards can be exchanged in the invasion zones or in your capital (Orgrimmar or Stormwind) at the Illidari camp for equipment. Those who already have all useful items can also invest them in a new pet (a small Felbat) or various “ensemble” items that unlock armor skins for all armor classes, which can then be used as templates.
Anyone wanting to earn a bit of money in the long term should buy several of the pets, as these are only available during the pre-patch and are sure to increase in value in the coming months and years.
Note: Currently, Blizzard is pushing out small hotfixes almost every day that change some details about the invasions, such as the rate at which you receive Nether Shards. Therefore, regularly checking the patch notes can be beneficial.
