The largest raid boss that World of Warcraft has ever seen. This is what awaits us in the next major patch when we travel to the planet K’aresh.
It is an old joke that melee fighters in boss fights in World of Warcraft often can’t see anything more than the foot of the enemy because they can be so gigantic. In the next patch 11.2 “Ghosts of K’aresh”, Blizzard apparently thought, “Can we go even bigger?”
And yes, it can get bigger: The next final boss is as large as the city of Stormwind.
Antagonist from Burning Crusade makes an appearance
What kind of boss is this? We are talking about Lord Dimensius of the Void. This is an antagonist that long-time fans should already be familiar with if they have attentively played the quests from “The Burning Crusade” or have engaged intensely with Xal’atath and her story.
Dimensius is the (so far) only known Void Lord that has already consumed a World Soul. He was summoned into reality by Xal’atath and devoured the World Soul of K’aresh. This not only destroyed the planet but the magics of the incident also created the people of the Astrals – they were originally entirely different beings but lost their physical forms through the battle against Dimensius.
According to Drew De Sousa from Blizzard in the latest WoW Cast on YouTube:
Dimensius is impressive. You’ve never seen a boss like this, it will be an absolute feast for the eyes. It’s an incredible fight. Our combat designers, effects artists, sound designers, and dungeon artists, that’s an entire army of people who have put a tremendous amount of work into this and I can hardly wait for the player community to experience it.
Regarding the size of the boss, they were then even more specific:
It all ends in a cosmic battle against Dimensius, the largest boss we have ever created. He is … as big as Stormwind.
When can players experience the boss fight? Until we can make our way into the raid “Manaforged Omega”, it should take about 6 to 8 weeks. Blizzard aims to release a new patch approximately every 8 weeks. Since the Update 11.1.7 has only been live since last Wednesday, the patch 11.2 is likely to be scheduled for mid-August.
