WoW will receive a new book before the release of Shadowlands. We reveal what it is about and what this could mean for Shadowlands.
In the meantime, it has become a long-standing tradition in World of Warcraft that at least one book is published before the release of a new expansion. This book links the current storyline in WoW with the next addon and often contains important information relevant to the progression of the story.
A book titled “Shadows Rising” has now also been announced for the Shadowlands expansion. We’ll tell you what it is about and what this could mean for the release date of Shadowlands.
What is Shadows Rising about? A summary of the book has already been published. Here, the main story points are briefly addressed. It contains spoilers. Please note that this is our translated version and not the English original:
“The Horde is nothing!” With these infamous words, Sylvanas Windrunner betrayed and abandoned the Horde she had sworn to serve. The Dark Lady and her forces now operate in the shadows while the Horde and Alliance – including her sister Alleria – try to uncover her next move. Burdened with the weight of leadership, Anduin sends the Void Elves and High Exarch Turalyon to find Sylvanas’ whereabouts.
The Horde stands at a crossroads. The various factions form a council, laying to rest the mantle of Warchief. Thrall, Lor’themar Theron, Baine Bloodhoof, First Arcanist Thalyssra, and many other familiar faces confront this new challenge. But there are many threats, and distrust runs deep.
As the council is thrown off course by an assassination attempt on Talanji, the Queen of the Zandalari and important allies, Thrall and the rest of the Horde leaders are forced to act. They assign the young Troll Shaman Zekhan, who still mourns the loss of Varok Saurfang, an important mission to help Talanji and uncover the growing threat against her.
Meanwhile, Nathanos Blightcaller and Sira Moonwarden have been tasked by the Dark Lady with a terrible mission: To kill the Troll Loa of Death, Bwonsamdi.
Zekhan and Talanji attempt to save Bwonsamdi, and their journey will be one of the turning points that strengthens the Horde against the encroaching darkness. Failing to rescue the sly god would surely doom the Horde, but through success, they may once again recognize what makes the Horde strong.
When is Shadows Rising being released? The English original version of the book will be released on July 14, 2020, in a little over 5 months. There is not yet a date for the German version. However, it typically comes out weeks or even months later.
What does this mean for the WoW release? The previous book “Before the Storm” was released just over 2 months before the release of Battle for Azeroth. If Blizzard follows a similar strategy again, then Shadowlands should launch in September. However, there is still no official release date.
Are you looking forward to the book “Shadows Rising”? Or are you not interested in the connection story at all?
