When it comes to the Riddler’s Mind Worm in WoW, Blizzard actually had very different solutions planned. They are now revealing this to all fans.
Patch 7.2 of World of Warcraft was once again filled with some secrets. The biggest secret was the Riddler’s Mind Worm. This mount had been parsed from the game data, and after the release of Patch 7.2, the great search began. It was kicked off by a found book page in the middle of Dalaran.
Blizzard has now revealed in a blog post how the puzzle of the Riddler’s Mind Worm was invented and explains the whole game in more detail.
The original solution that Blizzard came up with was interesting: The combined page numbers of all clues yield the ISBN number of “Warcraft: Chronicles”. Each individual clue, in turn, refers to a page in the book – on that page, there was an illustration showing the location of the next clue. This was supposed to go on over 7 steps.
Community Chose Hammer Approach
However, the community had other plans and resolved it simply with the hammer approach. With several tens of thousands of players, the game world was scoured piece by piece. Was “stone” a word in the puzzle? Then every stone in Azeroth was clicked to find the solution.
When thousands of players form a search team, even the best hiding place can’t withstand these secrets for long. Thus, it was ultimately possible to solve the puzzle of the Riddler’s Mind Worm within about 24 hours.
At the end of the post, Blizzard hints that the “Mind Seekers” will soon return. This is likely to mean that with Patch 7.2.5 or 7.3 a larger puzzle will be brought back into the game world – on the Discord server of the puzzle friends, they are already licking their lips for it.
