A film focuses on World of Warcraft – and specifically the race for the First Kills. A drama of a different kind.
The life of a gamer doesn’t lend itself to a film? What is there to see? A typical nerd sitting in front of the computer all day?
No way! At Comic Con, the trailer for the film “Game Changers” was presented, focusing on a topic that has received little attention in film and television – if we exclude the “violent video game” debates.
The two protagonists were passionate gamers in their youth. All their free time was invested in the trading card game Magic: The Gathering and later in console games like Halo on the Xbox, until they even won a prestigious tournament.
But the years go by and both drift away from gaming. The “seriousness of life” with a steady job catches up with them.
They repeatedly feel this emptiness inside and the urge to reconnect with the old days. That’s why they try again to achieve something truly meaningful as gamers – and strive for a World-First Kill in World of Warcraft!
To achieve this, they need to recruit old friends, form a guild, and solve plenty of interpersonal issues (not to mention that they also need to play a lot).
Although the story leaves much room for comedy, it seems to be more of a drama. There’s a small love drama, the exploitation of friendships for personal gain, and so on…
What do you think of such a film? Would you watch it? Or should gaming not be portrayed on the big screen in this way?
This trailer for Naxxramas is also movie-ready – a fan made it and sets new machinima standards!
